WOW!! We just returned from a fabulous week at Sun, Moon, and Stars! It sits almost at the top of Calabash Boom Road - only the castle is above it. There is a villa next door, but the way they are situated, SMS is very private. The views are breathtaking! Some of the best I've seen on the island. In front of you is the East end, you can see Princess Bay, Haulover, Hansen, and Privateer Bay with Tortola in the background. The Sahara dust made things hazy, but you could still see Norman and Peter Islands and on some days beyond. One clear day off to the right(or south) I even think I saw St. Croix. Since SMS is located high on the mountain the breezes are divine!
There is a great deck that we enjoyed daily! There were no biting bugs due to the breezes, I think, because other places we were eaten up! The pool was refreshing, but would probably be cool in the winter! I believe they are considering solar heating for the pool, though. The master bedroom is air-conditioned and the bed is very comfortable. There is a great sound system with indoor and outdoor speakers which we loved! I thought I would really miss air-conditioning in the living area, but even the first week of August we were fine. We opened the windows and doors and the breezes were nice!. If there would've been AC throughout I would have missed out on the breeze and night sounds, because I probably would've automatically had it on. The couch is very comfortable and there is a large flat screen T.V. with cable or satellite -we only had it on once all week, so I'm not sure which. There were plenty of fluffy towels, a washer and dryer, and a small kitchen. There were lots of books on ST. John: Feet, Fins, and Four Wheel Drive, St. John off the Beaten Path, lonely planet (I think) and another travel guide, as well as St. John: Life in 5 Quarters, The Wild Life in an Island House, Tales of ST. John, and Flirting with Mermaids. I enjoyed learning more about St. John immensely! There were some basic cooking spices, oil, coffee, etc. along with sunscreens, lotions, and some some liquor. A lot of nice extra touches! The drive up the mountain was an adventure!
My favorite things: the view, privacy, sound system, SJ reading material, and porch couch. I'd love to see a hammock on that porch, too! I would stay here again in a heart beat!
