Mystic Ridge: Fabulous views, very nice higher end villa

We recently returned from a stay at this villa. This was our third St John trip, but our first stay in the Bordeaux Mtn area. Our travel group included our extended family (my husband and I, his sister, her partner, and our two daughters in their twenties).

I would definitely recommend this villa and/or location. The views were far better than pictured, and even in early June, no A/C was needed due to the mountain breezes (although A/C was available in bedrooms). It was very clean, and nicely decorated. It is very convenient to Maho Bay for snorkeling (where we saw many turtles), and to Coral Bay restaurants and bars, and quick shopping trips. Major shopping trips would still need to go over to Cruz Bay, but the ride is only 20 minutes or so. It also is probably one of the most easily accessible villas in Bordeaux, with a short, level driveway. Absolutely no need for 4 wheel drive on this trip! I really appreciated getting away from the Cruz Bay bustle, and found that we ended up avoiding going into town as much as possible. We found that we really love the Bordeaux area. Several in our party are not huge beach enthusiasts, but it was very convenient to split our party up and still pick every one up for lunch in Coral Bay (Skinny Legs or Shipwreck Landing were our favorites, or just lunch at the villa).

The kitchen was extremely well provisioned with high end cookware, numerous plates, platters, glasses, bowls, utensils, and gadgets. It also had some aluminum foil, paper products, saran wrap, ziplocs, and S&P already there, which was much appreciated. The rental agent included a nice welcome basket, and she was very helpful and professional. We prepared meals here most nights, and the large kitchen was great for multiple cooks. We ended up using the grill often (a nice Weber). It was easy to prepare meals and still converse with people on the deck.

Bedrooms were all very comfortable with good mattresses, and nice quality bed linens and decorations. Great views from the master bedroom and 2nd floor queen bedroom on their private seating areas (porch). It is an east facing view in both of these bedrooms, so be prepared to have the sun wake you - early... The showers had garden window(s), and very nice quality towels. We also used the bedroom by the pool for my two twenty year old daughters, and it was very nicely decorated and comfortable. Also nicer to get them a few steps away for quiet! We only used 3 of the 4 bedrooms, and while we didn't actually stay in the 4th, I don't know that I would recommend it for adults sharing a rental, unless you won't mind the lack of a view. It is only accessible by exterior stairs, and doesn't have A/C (and due to it being on the lower level, I am not sure it would get much of a breeze). Older kids should be fine.

The villa supplied numerous beach towels, coolers, beach chairs, etc. This allowed us to have fresh towels each day, which is nicer than some villas that just provide a minimum number of towels. There were easily 20 large, nice quality beach towels, maybe more.

The living room has 3 large couches and other seating as well, so it will definitely fit 8 people very easily. WiFi was fast and didn't give us any problems during our entire stay, and we used this for all our iPhones plus a laptop. Please note that the laptop wouldn't fit in the safe. It had a nice stereo system with iPod/iPhone adapter (which you would want to bring, since the Sirius XM wasn't working during our stay). There was lots of high end art work throughout. The decking is expansive and has many deck chairs, and you have good views throughout, with great views at the far end of the deck. There were several papaya trees with ripe fruit, but we didn't try any. The landscaping is professional and very nicely done, and we had flowering bird of paradise, mimosa, and many other flowering plants that I couldn't begin to name. Hummingbirds visited daily, and there is a telescope if you want to checkout the islands or boats in the bays. The view is just fabulous, although we had some haze for the first few days (which cleared eventually). The hot tub is probably best suited to 4 persons, although more can fit. We only used the hot tub a few times, and not nearly as much as we expected. I doubt that I would include a hot tub on the 'have to have' list for our next rental. The pool was cool and very refreshing, but seemed a little smaller than pictured. We used this several times daily, and it is a must have on the island IMO.

Overall, a great villa that I would strongly recommend, and the nicest one that I have stayed in on St John so far. I would definitely stay here again!
