Hi everyone. I've been lurking around this forum for a long time, and I want to thank everyone for all the helpful advice. I promised mysrelf that I'd contribute something when we returned; and it's taken me this long to get around to it. Anyway, here goes:
My husband I stayed at Apito villa in early/mid March. We rented it through VRBO. This was our second time at the villa, and we loved it even more this time. It feels like home- not a rental. Since our first stay, the owners have added wooden blinds and curtains so don't let the curtainless pictures fool you. It also has 2 fairly equal bedrooms, full AC (which we didn't need), and a great pool that was the perfect for dipping into after a day at the beach. The location is excellent, too, very near Maho Bay and my favorite beach, Francis. I must say, they tried to think of everything a guest could possibly need in this home and it's great! We will be returning.
We both also really enjoyed Island Blues in the evening- not so much for the food, but for the atmosphere. They had a live band almost every night. We also loved, loved Sun Dog Cafe at Mongoose Junction. We had seen the place before, but it wasn't at lunchtime, so I didn't realize it was a bar AND restaurant. Best food ever! Thanks all for telling me about it! Ditto with Uncle Joes- very tastey!
We took the ferry one day to Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgins and hung out at the Soggy Dollar Bar on White Bay. It was a LOT of fun, but you do need a passport to go there. In any event, I highly recommend it! It feels kind of like a party beach, because a lot of people get there from St. Thomas, too, on day excursions. So, we got the party beach experience out of our systems and were happy to return to our quiet, Francis Bay the next day.
The best snorkeling on St. John seems to be Waterlemon Cay- but maybe there's better, we just didn't have time to see everything!. Anyway, I saw my first octopus there and it was quite a thrill! There were tons of other fish, too.
All in all, this was another terrific vacation, although it was a bit rainier this time than last time. We have tried other places, but somehow we've gotten the St. John bug and nothing ever really compares. Thanks again everybody for all your help!
