Re: underwater cameras

I've been researching an underwater camera for a while. I have been using a Canon D10 for the last 5 years and have been pretty happy but ready to upgrade. I think I'm going to go with the Olympus TG-4 that is supposed to come out this week. Hopefully in time for our trip later in June.

Re: Babysitters on STJ

I would highly recommend Crystal with Christy's of STJ. This is our 4th visit to STJ with our now 5 year old son and she has watched him on every trip. We are usually on island for 2 weeks and she will babysit 4 times, 2 days and 2 evenings. Our son loves her and always very excited when Crystal is ...

Re: Provisioning Villa

Thanks mindehankins. I saw them when I did a google search but it was a new name to me. Their prices look reasonable so I'll get in touch with them.

Provisioning Villa

I am looking for a recommendation for someone who can provision our villa with groceries, water, beer, etc upon our arrival in February. In the past the villa rental company was able to provide the service but this year they are recommending Christies. I've worked with Christies in the past and love...

Re: Renting an umbrella

We also try to stay out of the sun as much as possible and that's why we love the beaches of STJ. You can almost always find a tree to park under and be out of the sun all day long. There is great shade at Francis, Maho, and Trunk (and I'm sure many others). Salt Pond is one place you will have a ha...

Re: Swimming in February

Only once did I ever get chilled in the winter and that was last year after a very long snorkel. The water temp never bothers me during day at the beach dips. My super-sissy friend doesn't ever complain and she won't dip a toe into her own pool below 85 degrees. Villa pools are a different story. F...

Re: Swimming in February

I have gone twice in February and we snorkeled every day for at least an hour every time we went out. You could always get a swimshirt if you feel it is cold but we never had a need for them. As for the pool, I would go with the heated pool if you wish to swim at night. The pool at our villa had fu...

Re: Swimming in February

As a local I won't go in the water until late April at the earliest - tooo brrrr cold for me (OK March maybe if I have to do the short swim to Soggy and Mic is working) and as far as a pool - when we put ours in it will be heated :) Pia Thanks Pia! Because of my husband's work, we have to go in Feb...

Swimming in February

Thanks Kevin! We usually spend most of our time in the water and now i'm a little worried that even the ocean may be too cool? I always considered 80 degrees to be a swimmable temperature especially if the air isn't that much warmer than the water. I can't imagine going to STJ and not spending all o...

Swimming in February

I am looking forward to a return trip to STJ in February with DH and 5 year old son. This will be our first "winter" trip to STJ as we normally visit in May/June. With a 5 year old, we spend alot of time in the evenings in the pool and I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to get a villa w...

I'm not sure what is going on with Villa Food and why some orders are fine and others are not. Like the other poster, we also started our ordering process at least one month prior to our trip -- I sent 3 emails and made 2 calls and never heard a thing back. When we return next year, I will use anoth...

The "Best Of" Trip Report

We just returned from 2 weeks on STJ. This was our 7th visit and we did all the normal great stuff that is mentioned alot on the forum but I wanted to highlight some of our favorite things that may not get mentioned alot. Fatty Crabs - love this place! Drinks are reasonably priced and really good. I...
