The "Best Of" Trip Report
The "Best Of" Trip Report
We just returned from 2 weeks on STJ. This was our 7th visit and we did all the normal great stuff that is mentioned alot on the forum but I wanted to highlight some of our favorite things that may not get mentioned alot.
Fatty Crabs - love this place! Drinks are reasonably priced and really good. I love rum punches and pain killers but sometimes I need a break from the sweet stuff. Fatty Crabs pours a really good, strong drink and most are only $5 or $6. Their Dark & Stormy is the best I've ever had and I also had my share of Micheladas. And the food is so good. I find the menu layout a little odd, but check out their bar menu. I'm still dreaming about their potatoes with aioli and the beef & pork sliders. The service is fantastic (hi Jamie!) and kid-friendly too. Fatty Crab's is our new favorite place on the island.
Babysitter - this is our third year in a row having Crystal from Christy's of St. John babysit our now 3 1/2 year old. I can't say enough great things about Crystal and 100% trust leaving my son with her. She was born and raised on the island. We used her 4 times on this trip and my son was always happy when we left and when we returned. She charges $20/hour but the peace of mind is totally worth it.
Hansen Bay - we happened upon Hansen Bay when we were out geocaching and decided to go for a snorkel out to Pelican Rock. This was our first time snorkeling Hansen Bay and it was really nice. The soft and hard corals are so healthy and there are some cool ravines to swim through. We didn't spot any cool underwater creatures but it was a really unique snorkel and we were the only ones there.
Hercules Pate - I guess this gets mentioned a bit but still worth a shout out! We had to limit ourselves because we could eat this greasy treat every day.
Cruz Bay Family Practice - our son got an ear infection while we were there and the doctor and nurse practitioner were great. I would highly recommend them.
California Baby Bug Spray - it really works and does so without harmful chemicals. My husband gets bit terribly and he loves this stuff. We use it on our 3 year old too.
Porters at the STT airport - if you use a porter at the STT airport they will speed you through the tedious check in process and get you to the front of every line. We use them every time we're returning home and they make the process so much easier. They charge per bag and work on tips. So worth the cost in my opinion.
I could go on and on about all the things we did and love on STJ but I'll stick with these favorites. Thanks to all the forumites who make this place a great place to visit

We also use Daphne. She hooked my husband forever the day both USAir's and AA's computers went down on a high season Sunday, the lines 3+ hours long and see had us through in minutes.Connie wrote:You mentioned porters. We use Daphne. You just have to ask for her. She's great!! She even helped us tis time at the airport at the US Counter when we had to get home fast do to an emergency.
Really nice girl and always has a smile on.
I look forward to trying Fatty Crab in February
