N Swell March 2008/Trunk Bay Video

Post by JC »

Admittedly...the quality of the video is not so great...but here is a look at the North Swell we captured from the Trunk Bay overlook this past March. The video is short...some 27 sec......but you'll get the drift. It really was something. The experts...whomever they are...said it was the worst since 1991.

I also have a clip...shorter yet...of Johnson's Reef if anyone is interested.

Back to the stills...

Wow! Those are definitely stronger than the ones we saw there the day before. Funny enough, the ferry to STT that day (probably right when you were shooting) wasn't nearly as rough as I thought it would be. Thanks for the footage :)

That's pretty amazing. Last week, John Brandi told us there were 20 to 25 foot swells at the time, if I understood him correctly. Thanks for the post.

Thanks JC.......

I have to say that week was the worst "weather" I ever experienced on STJ and it really didn't rain much. Oh well, once every 15 years isn't that bad.

I'm lovin' your videos Jen! It's amazing to see those waves go all the way up to the tree line!

JC, thank you for posting this. It brings back memories for me - I was on Trunk about 3 years ago in Jan/February and the swells appeared that big then. I remember that there was no beach at all and some people were brave enough to go in. It made me nervous with the waves slamming into the beach. It was right after the major Tsunami in the south pacific so I wasn't risking it at all.

Nice video!

Last November, there were some nice waves breaking at Trunk also. I tried body surfing, but just ended up getting corkscrewed into the beach. Dumb!

While we were there, I watched a surfer getting great rides out on Johnson's Reef. At first, I thought I was imagining things.

Thanks for the video. It's really cool. I prefer calm, but it would have been interesting.

Thanks for the video. We were on STJ the last week of March and the waves at Cinnamon were very good size as well. I'm still wearing splints on two fingers of my left hand to prove it.
