Have you ever noticed how many people read and never post???
You know what's funny? I blab away here all the time, but in real life I am usually very quiet(unless I am with people I know well, and then you can't shut me up). Someone just had a trip report where they talked about walking the beach and chatting to random people...I could NEVER do that! I am too shy! So, if you see me, you'll have to say hi first or I won't talk to you!

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
It's interesting, I monitor 4 USVI and 1 BVI forums plus a number of blogs. I'll participate on each of them to some extent. The biggest difference is that this forum is about people enjoying STJ rather than just about the destination. I frequently see cross-posts of the same question in all/most of the forums and the responses are very different. Even the members from this forum interact differently in different venues. Elsewhere, it is just the facts. Here. it is "How have you been? What do you like?"
That being said, there are friendly places to discuss the BVIs and St. Martin, but that's about it.
So, how do I monitor all of these spots without spending more than 20 minutes a day at it? I use the RSS reader netvibes.com. It presents a single page in a browser with all of the current message board traffic, once setup. I can glance at the summaries and drill into a single thread. This works on all but one forum. Just feeding the obsession more efficiently.
Cheers, RickG

I am the same way. I will type just about anything, but won't say it in person. It has almost gotten me in trouble on occasion.

I'm guilty of compulsive lurking.

I concur 100% with that. Of all of the message boards I have come across, this is far and away the very best of the web IMO. The folks here treat everyone with respect, have great senses of humor and are just plain fun to read. I've said this before but I truly do think that people who have a real emotional attachment to St. John in particular share some kind of spiritual bond with others who feel the same way. I know....can I be any cornier? Get the hook.....that's why I lurk more than post!I've never found a friendlier, more close knit, helpful group of people that are eager to help.

Official lurker here.
I've only been to St John once and that was for work, I was only there about an hour.
I am heading there in June for a week. I usually just use the search when I have a question. I was wanting to know about cistern water and used the search yesterday and found my answer.
I love reading the trip reports and will post one when I get back in June. We will be staying at Reef Madness. I can't wait.

Funny, I thought about the MBTI of frequent posters... Oddly enough, I'm a strong E (ENFP) and my lady is borderline E/I.Wolfhound wrote:I read frequently and post occasionally. Greenskeeper, I have a similar Excel file! It consists of 5 different tabs of categories, and I'm constantly adding to it from the great ideas I get from this board. I even started a new tab titled "Playlist" based on the island music recommendations from a few weeks ago.Greenskeeper wrote:I have a 4 page document saved in Word that has lists and tips that I've cut and pasted from these boards alone!
My husband thinks I'm crazy for it. Can't wait to tell him about this!
Much like many others, I am a lurker and only post when I feel like I have something useful to add. But I very much enjoy getting to know all the different personalities of the board and reading all the great tips and input. Thanks to all for making the gray days of office life a little sunnier!
I am having college psych class flashbacks ... If I remember right I was a ENFJ ... can't remember what that means other than ExtrovertedRickG wrote:Funny, I thought about the MBTI of frequent posters... I would have to agree with a lot of the responses here on this thread. I read this forum (more than I should during the day), and post only occasionally. And, like a couple of posters here, I feel like I know everyone personally. You all are the nicest people I've ever come across on a forum, and I've been to a lot of forums. I used to post a lot on a certain cruise forum, and it seemed like everytime you offered your opinion, you got blasted for it. I don't find that here, and it's nice.
So thank you, this is a great place.
And, I can't wait to go to STJ again. Maybe on our next trip, I'll be able meet some of you. That would be a hoot!
Have a great day everyone,

Sorry, I too am a closet lurker. I do help with answers occasionally if I really feel I have a contribution in that area. Only been to StJ once, last year. But. . . will be there again in 2 1/2 weeks. Yeah! So maybe after trip 2, I will be much more knowledgable and able to contribute more. This site is a wonderful source of info. Every place there is in the world to travel to
should have a site like this. And I'm impressed that the people are all so kind and there seems to be no nastiness that can so frequently happen on message boards.
Thanks to all.

Thanks to all.
