Have you ever noticed how many people read and never post???
There are an amazing amount of people that read and are so quiet. I wonder if it's like calling into a radio talk show..........are some people just shy??? I have called into radio talk shows. Have any of you? Not Rush, but maybe some day.
Its funny, we'll meet people on STJ mention that they read the forum. They'll know who all the frequent flyers are and know the inside jokes. But, "Oh, I would never have anything to say." My Sweet Christine is one of those, getting her to post some of her commentary that she comes up as she reads posts to me is like pulling teeth.

I spend at least an hour a day reading this and other travel bulletin boards, but I've only made in the vicinity of 10 posts. I know the people on the board so much that I'll be talking about them by their first name, and my husband will say, who is that? I say, oh just someone on the boards! I just enjoy reading about the islands!

I'm not much of a poster... but I read every day usually more than once a day! Everyone else is so knowledgable that I just read the responses and only chime in if I really REALLY have an opinion about a place to eat or something near and dear to my heart like Gallow's point. I ask a question occasionally (like my panic lately over how my daughter is going to rent a car since she is under 25) but mostly just read and enjoy all the wonderful, friendly people.

lurker alert
Hi cypressgirl! I for one am a very proud lurker I can't exactly post this all the time : CRAP, NOT going to St John this month! And I haven't visited often enough to think of answering lots of q's. But, gotta say, just love reading this forum! Lots of info for a someday trip!
PS Hi to RickG's Sweet Christine, wanna print up some PROUD LURKER shirts with me?

I'm a lurker! Is that a bad thing? LOL
I have asked a few questions that helped me choose a villa and plan the airfare but still not ready to plan any further. I really can't add much to the conversation for the most part as I've never been to STJ.
I have a 4 page document saved in Word that has lists and tips that I've cut and pasted from these boards alone!
My day would not be complete without multiple visits to this site!

I too have noticed that there are a lot of folks who read and don't post. Being fairly new, I don't post too often because I can't usually add too much since I'm about 5 weeks away from my first visit to the island. I can say that I visit a lot of tech forums and I've never found a friendlier, more close knit, helpful group of people that are eager to help. I would be a nervous wreck trying to plan my honeymoon without all the great info I've found here. Heck, I even scored a couple of free t-shirts for my collection from California Girl (Thanks Again..)! I also think Anthony deserves a "two thumbs up" for being an excellent moderator. Thanks to all who help out and make this a great place to hang out...

There are some days if I'm not working that I may spend a few HOURS on the forum or check it several times a day. I'm pretty close to needing some intervention or forum rehab of some sort, but continue to lurk. What gives? Not sure... Especially considering in the real world I cant seem to shut up!!

My husband is a huge watch guy and frequents several watch forums. He's very picky about which forum he'll post to but he reads them all like an addict. I am very similar in that this is the only forum I post to, its also the only one I really read.
Add to that some people are introverts some are more extroverted ---- we all know where we fall along the spectrum. Add a natural extroversion to a STJ obsession and you have our top 20 or so posters I think its a great thing and I am sure Anthony appreciates all the lurkers too!
I have never come across an online forum that is more of a community than this one. I love it.

i visit this an a couple other vi boards daily. this one is the best by far. i have a passion for stj and daily visits to boards satiate me between visits and provide great info for future trips. i'll post ocassionally when i feel i have something positive to add.
a wise man once said you learn by listening not by talking. i've learned a lot about stj by reading here and perhaps have added a small amount of help by my posts. i also enjoy the "chatter" but will seldom join in because there's little i can really add. perhaps many of the lurkers feel same way.
i also assume many of the lurkers "click" on some of the sponsor adds. that's probably what keeps this and other boards going!
peace,
papabou
