String of Pearl also available through VRBO

It has the convenience of being able to walk to the Westin!

You can use the Westin's pool. We found if you buy a drink or two at the bar or have lunch in the beachside grill nobody bothers you.

Erika,
I wish I had something else to suggest, but all of the ones I have come up with have already been mentioned. Good luck with your search and be sure to tell your boyfriend how much we appreciate him.
Thank you Pia for posting this!

Hi Erika,

I saw your post on the other board last week-- I'm glad you got so much help. Yay!

I hope you've had luck finding a place?

Oh, also, from a fellow 101st relative, HOOAH! :)

i think we have a winner?

Post by erika9252 »

so even though i'm still not 100% sold, i spoke with Eric and gave him 3 choices to look at and then call me back...

Mampoo Hill
Starlit Escape
Windwardside Main House
Island Horizons

he chose starlit escape. any comments?
i'm still so in love with windwardside, i'm pretty sure he was sold with the whole happy hour tour thing. men. ha ha. i'm sure no matter where we stay it will be insanely fabulous.

so what do you guys think?

PS he told me to send his thanks along to each of you for your assistance in my stressful vacation planning endeavor. he truly appreciates it and cannot believe the hospitality that you guys have shown us "strangers". thank you.

First of all what any of us would or could do for him is nothing compared to what he - and you - are doing for us. 8)

Second, you will find that no one is a stranger on STJ. :)

Third, could he bring his own Jeep with him? It works for Hawkeye and Trapper John. Perhaps some of our resident members or those who will be there when you are there could help with this one.

Please enjoy your stay and time together.

Well that stinks. Try posting this as a separate question so it doesn't get lost in this post. maybe someone has had experience with this.

Budget at the St. Thomas airport will rent to individuals under the age of 25 with a $10 per day surcharge. They allow you to take the Jeep to St. John via the car ferry.

Erika-

I met the owner(s) of Starlit Escape a couple months ago and they're great people. A huge appreciation for the island, and pretty proud of the "Happy Hour Tower" which I'm sure you and your boyfriend will love (great view up there). It gets pretty good reviews and if I'm not mistaken, that's where Chicagoans stayed over New Years? Maybe they'll chime in with some info for you.

thanks!

thanks for the rental car tips.
Vicky, we reserved with Budget and i also sent a reservation form to Dependable Car Rental. i would much rather stick with the family owned company but what can we do lol.

Yes the Chicagoans vacationed there and she has sent me rave reviews about the place and has offered to answer any questions on the place. very sweet lady.

thanks again for all of your help. i'll be on here with more questions back and forth i'm sure. as a first timer i have to question everything lol.

Hey, I don't know if you have found a place yet...this morning I got a promotional email from Spirit airlines advertising STJ for $ 59 / night...turns out it is for Great Expectations Villa...their web site sez'... "For a limited time in 2008...MILITARY PERSONNEL STAY FREE"...CHECK IT OUT! Good luck

We stayed at Great Expectations last year. It would be huge for the two of you, but a very nice place indeed. I found it to be private, has a hot tub, pool, great views for sunrise and sunset. I'd definitely check it out.

FREE?

Post by erika9252 »

WOW! so i checked out the website and just spoke with the owner and his response was "it's a 7 bedroom villa" i said..."yes" ugh. apparently he is looking to rent to an entire family, and while that would be nice...eric and i do NOT want to spend our vacation with the family. He offered me the guest house, which is still nice. but it's not entirely free...you get a free night. that's a nice gesture but i believe we would be better off with Adeste. if only the reservations would work out...

thank you guys so much...i guess i'll keep moving forward. at any rate Charles, the owner of Great Expectations was very nice and his heart is definitely in the right place.

no Adeste :(

Post by erika9252 »

so the other renters of Adeste didn't want to switch their dates. what can you do? i did really appreciate the owners generous discount however. what a wonderful lady that i hope to do business with on our next visit on island.

it seems we have hit the end...

starlit escape $1400
Sea Biscuit $1708 (she offered a five percent military discount

what should we do?
