gallows questions
Friends of ours stayed at the gallows last week. they were in Unit 10D. they always stay at the gallows because they love it. We have stayed there as well and in my opinion it is one of the best places in the world to be! Having said that, our friends were very disappointed in the condition of Unit 10D, Needed a lot of upgrading including kitchen cabinets which they said were actually hanging off! Last year we stayed in unit 12D. Loved it. The living room could use some new furniture. Getting really worn, but everything else was fine. bedroom furniture was all new. Hope this helps. Didn't find the noise from the harbor to be an issue. Actually like the sound of the boats and ferries going by.
cypressgirl, I know. It will be a quick trip for us. But we are doing it "on the cheap", got a great airfare, and Gallows is having a "7 for 5 nights" sale. However, I would add that the odds of us staying longer are quite great.
Honestly though we probably won't be able to go for quite as long as we did in June again. John gets 6 weeks vacation, but his company frowns on extended leaves. He's been able to pull it off so far, but this was probably the last time.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
bill - more and more comments like yours about the wear and tear evident in several Gallows units are showing up on forums like this and on tripadvisor.
Wear and tear is inevitable, but it becomes a concern of mine as a repeat visitor that more "wild cards" appear to be showing up beyond the expected unit to unit variability.
This upkeep issue should be a real concern to the individual owners and/or owners association (if there is one).
Folks will not be willing to chance $500/nite in season for dirty units, shabby furniture, broken appliances, worn linen, etc. You can find plenty of nice villas at that price point.

When we come to place where the sea and the sky collide

I agree. Gallows is not cheap and next time we book, i will let them know I was disappointed in the condition of the unit. Last year our friends stayed in Unit 10 A or B. Not sure, but it was just redone and lovely. They are going to express their concerns about this year's unit too.

We rented a unit in a similar type of complex (FL, not STJ) and our unit was so dated and tired in comparision to the rest of the property, it almost felt like someone was playing a joke on us. The towels were like rags and the bedding was at least 10 years old.
It surprised me as the exterior and common areas were so stunning. When I questioned the reservation desk, I was told the owner was selling it and refused to upgrade the furnishings.
