Kayak is a pretty useful site for finding and tracking prices. When I actually make the purchase, though, I always go to the airline's website and purchase directly from them. I've found that the big travel sites sometimes tack on a few extra fees that raise the price a little. Also, I had a complete nightmare last year trying to sort out a problem with Travelocity. I'd rather deal with the airline directly.

Someone on another forum gave me the name of an app for my android phone and i just found the cheapest fare of the day on it. Don't know if that is always the case, but it was today flying out of cle. The app is on the fly

I like google flights (http://www.google.com/flights/) especially the graphing option. We got flights out of rdu for late May about 5 months out for <$400 so you can possibly do better unless you are going at Thanksgiving or something. Happy hunting!
