Lemon trees on island?
Re: Lemon trees on island?
If you are really considering installing multiple spigots look into the type water spigot that marinas use that has a bracket that accepts a lock - left in the ON position with a hose attached, perhaps with a drip irrigation system or even with just a closed spray nozzle, a hose failure can empty your cistern and then burnout the water pump even at an attended house and certainly at an unattended house. If the water pressure pump is in an sound insulated space you may not even hear it running if you are home - the pump at my house is situated so I can hear it run if I am home - I have also seen homes with an small red indicator light mounted somewhere visible so they know when the pump is running if it is located where it can't be easily heard. Having lockable spigots won't eliminate the chance that a spigot is left in the ON position by a caretaker or gardener but it gives you the option at a very small initial cost.
I have experienced: hose, O-ring and nozzle failure and never leave an outside spigot in the ON position.

Excellent suggestion EZ, we have those locks on our spigots.

I don't know how your property is as far as slope but my friends collect the rain water off of the driveway and decks into big plastic tanks that their irragation system is pumped out of I think there is 4 1000 gal tanks behind their garage.

Tom, we have a pretty steep slope. I'll check where the water goes. Thanks!
Exit Zero, thanks for the lock reminder. We have those in our home on the mainland and they are a must, especially when you have little kids, who like to play or drink water from the hose!
Betty, I checked and we have lots of spigots all over the house, exactly for the purposes you described. Our architect put in where he believe we should have flowers, plants, etc and he added them during his planning for the plumber. But, I will make sure that the leeward terrace has at least one!
