Me and my wife have stayed at the astral cottage, and it was wonderful!! No A/C but it was high enough up that there was always a breeze. We stayed during the last week of May.liamsaunt wrote:What about this place? You could walk to the Westin from here--(do they have daypasses for their pool?):

Look at this site, they have a bunch of places in your price range, with pools:

Editing to add one more, I have been looking at this place for a couple of years, and it looks great! You can rent the ridge or the cottage, or the whole thing, and the ridge and cottage are quite seperate from each other. The ridge is slightly over your range but has the pool. The cottage is in your range and has a hot tub:

My husband and I are always looking for small places for the two of us...we like being somewhat near Cruz Bay, want a pool and a/c (at least in the bedroom)...those are our only requirements.
Check out: http://www.caribehavens.com/casablanca.htm
We stayed at Casa Blanca two or three years ago. It was decent. The pool itself was pretty nice. The place was somewhat run down inside (the the laminate cabinets were rough looking, the tile was dated, that sort of thing), but it was fine if you don't need anything fancy. There is one bedroom (with a/c), a full bath, and one main room (which is comprised of the family room area and the kitchen).
One of the best things about the place is the abundant genip trees that hang over the deck area...yum. We had never eaten any before but the lady who rented us the villa introduced us to them...so now we look for genip trees every place we stay.
There is also a tower deck thing at Casa Blanca that you can go up in to get a really good view. It isn't mentioned on the website, but every person in the guest book recommends hanging out there at sunset...we did a couple times, but the bugs really like me so I try not to be outdoors too much at night.
Casa Blanca overlooks Frank Bay and is about a 5 minute (or less) walk to ZoZo's.

Last year we stayed at Hawksbill: http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/hawk/hawk1.html
Do a search on the forum for "Hawksbill" and you'll see were Va Girl asked about the place before she stayed there...I replied and posted a couple pictures. Then she talked about it in her her trip report after she got back.
Good luck
