Today is the day for superbowl trash talk time
BOSTON (CBS) – A seemingly innocuous comment at a Super Bowl rally from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is being turned into prime-time trash talk by the New York media.
The New York Post featured Brady’s face on the front and back pages of its Monday edition with the headlines “Tom talks trash” and “Tom’s Taunt.”
“We’re going down there for one reason,” Brady told the estimated crowd of 25,000 fans at Sunday’s rally at Gillette Stadium. “We’re going to give it our best, and hopefully we have a lot more people at our party next weekend.”
WBZ-TV’s Dan Roche reports.
After arriving in Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon, Brady was asked if he was trying to project confidence with his statement.
“Well, it was a pep rally,” Brady answered. “People were pretty excited.”
The New York Post, though, suggested Giants coach Tom Coughlin should use the party plans as bulletin board material for defensive linemen Jason Pierre-Paul, Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck, among others.
Last week, the Post reported that Giants players were inspired by Brady’s “arrogance” when talking to reporters prior to Super Bowl XLII. On Sunday, Brady went out of his way to compliment the Giants’ defensive line several times.
“Justin Tuck is as good as they come. Osi, week in and week out, he’s a player who can ruin a game for an offense,” Brady said in Indianapolis. “You look at the group they have now, and they have a ton of depth at the defensive line position. There were times this year when they weren’t all out there as a group, but they’re out there now and they’re playing extremely hard.”

Well thats just silly (but OK here in this thread with "trash talk" in the heading!) because it implies that there was an organized "pep" rally (how cute!) and nobody showed up, when in fact there was nothing of the sort - just some fans cheering the team bus when it left the training facility for the airport.shoemak38 wrote:At Gillette, 25,000 fans showed up to send off their beloved Patriots to the Super Bowl. Re the NY Post stuff, to call that Murdoch tabloid trash representative of the "NY Media" is pretty funny. Sometimes I cant tell the difference between the Post and The Onion, although that story of the Giants defense getting pretty steamed about that video of Brady visibly scoffing during media day 4 yrs ago that they would be held to 17 points (turned out to be 3 too much HA HA) did get play in other media outlets. I imagine that scoffing video had much more effect than pandering to a pep rally crowd would have.
Its kinda fascinating where pro athletes look for and get extra motivation. Michael Jordan was famous for taking anything that could be construed as a slight and making a mountain of motivation from it.

Re the game itself, there is so much talk about how high scoring it will be and you know how that works when everybody has expectations like that. Not so sure I would take the over on the 55 over/under.
Also, saw reports that Vegas is pretty worried about the Giants winning. Apparently during that mid-season losing streak, their odds of winning the Super Bowl went up to 100 to 1, and they got so much action on that spread that they had to lower it back down to 40 to 1, and lower still as they started winning again.

Ha! They haven’t played in NY since 1975 when they played a season in Shea Stadium while Yankee Stadium was being renovated, after which the terms of their lease with Yankee Stadium & Boss Steinbrenner got worse, so they started a search for a location to build their own stadium so they could keep all the ancillary receipts.jayseadee wrote:#6-at least the NE Patriots play in New England. NYC in the mid-70s was pretty much a hell hole on the brink of bankruptcy and with land at a premium in NY, the Meadowlands in NJ emerged as an option (probably with tax/infrastructure incentives) so they built Giants Stadium 7 miles from midtown Manhattan, since replaced by the new Met Life Stadium last year (and site of a real wintertime Super Bowl in 2 years).
Long time NYG season ticket holders still gripe about the ridiculous cost of PSLs (Personal Seat Licenses) required. A lot of long time (20, 25, 30+ year) season ticket holders couldn’t afford the PSL and the stadium now has a lot more “new” fans off the LONG waiting list that had the big $$$ to buy.
When ownership talks about how much they appreciate the devotion of the generations of “the fans”, its pure lip service. Why not put your money where your mouth is and discount the PSLs like X% for each year over 10 years that some loyal fan has been a season ticket holder? I know several families for whom the Giants season tickets were their one “extravagance” who no longer get to go to games because they couldn’t really afford to put up the initial $10,000+ just for the right to buy 4 seats every year.

Re Gronkowski’s injury: high ankle sprains can be pretty brutal and take a long time to fully recover from. A “sprain" by definition is a tear in a ligament. When the foot rolls inward as the replay showed, the ligaments can tear. If the inversion is severe, not only can ankle ligaments tear but so can the connective tissue that holds the two bones of the lower leg (tibia and fibula) together. This is called a "high" ankle sprain.
So, even if he plays, he will be limited in some way i.e. not as many yards after catch; # of plays; plus he has deal with the extra long halftime; etc.
