What a nice idea to share your experience with ifloat. I remember when you first posted it, (I was marciamarciamarcia then) and felt so honored that you shared your beautiful tribute to your wife with us. I think of you every year when we visit Hawksnest.

The human spirit is resilliant and has an amazing capacity to heal. I hope that ifloat finds comfort in your kindness and all the good wishes here.

Thank you Tom. You are so kind to share your story again. I, too, always think of you and your wife when I visit Hawksnest. Blessings to you.

Trip report #6

Post by Knolmom »

Tom,
Your touching tribute to your dear Laurie again today brings tears to my eyes, just as it did when you posted it the first time. Can it possibly be 5 years? It was just after your posting in 2007 that DH and I had our discussion about where we wanted to be after we had "passed over". We decided that we would like our ashes to be strewn out over the verdant hills of Catherinberg, being ultimately carried by the gentle breezes to the shores of Peter and Cinnamon bays below..hoping we will have those great north shore views forever!
When we took our adult kids to the island in the fall of 2007 and had this discussion with them, they were in a hurry to change the subject, and thought that we were being pretty morbid! Of course, they were young and healthy and strong, with few cares in the world. Like you, and many others on this forum, we know that life can be short, and we now take the time to live it to the fullest. We took my sister and her kids down this past summer and, while remarking on the beauty of the north shore, we had the same discussion with them. Shock followed by silence. Wish we could have broken the silence with promises that we would live forever...
I have been thinking about you with your case of the shingles. Hope you are feeling better. This must be a rough time for you, and you are in our thoughts and prayers.

What a sweet story, Tom, and heart breaking. I'm thinking you are probably having a rough time right now, with the holidays, shingles, and watching the forum grieve with another untimely loss.
Here's a hug (((Tom))) and hopes that your days are also much brighter very soon!

You can add me to this list of those that think of you and Laurie every time I go to or even enjoy Hawksnest from the overlook. I always take a minute to say a little prayer for you both. It is great that you can reach out to others to provide some comfort. Be well!
