Man, I wouldn't be liking that very much. I always use the CA ferry, rain or shine. Sorry to all the STT fans here, but I get off that plane, I want off of STT ASAP!
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.
That's really inconvenient, not just for those of us arriving and heading straight to St. John, but what about the cruise ship folks that might want to spend a day on St. John? Going all the way over to Red Hook will stink for them--it cuts a lot of time out of what must already be an abbreviated day.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

This is only my assumption! but there may be other arrangements made for the cruise ship people. I know in the past the two ferry companies that make the downtown run have used that ferry for transporting passengers off the ships in addition to the downtown schedule.
Just got back yesterday. Even though RH was the only option from STJ, the boat was still maybe 75% full. No problems. We left on the 10am ferry. I didn't notice a new ferry dock when we arrived at RH, but that was the first time I had ever been there (RH). Nothing looked too new to me. Not sure whether 10am on Friday is indicative of regular departures/arrivals, but that was my experience.
