Some friends of ours are flying Spirit on June 18th. They just e-mailed me after talking with Spirit and this is what they said:

They will not share other information unless the strike is a go. If flight is canceled....they will work to get us on another flight...without additional charge even if through another carrier (that was my understanding). Spirit will not say anything other than the flight is scheduled as is right now......and if it changes, then we can call back.

I was shocked that Spirit would be willing to put passengers on another airline. That's what they say now, but who knows once they strike.
Now there is a website to display any pilot's name that crosses the picket line. http://spiritairlinesscabs.com/index.html

We're on a Spirit flight out of DTW on June 22. That's nice if they do get you on another flight. I guess I can just hope it's on a flight that gets to STT at a decent time and not one of those that end up lasting some 15 hours with 3 stops and 4 hour layovers.

Anyway, if anybody hears anything, please post in this thread.

Thanks and good luck everyone! :)

I just spoke with our friends that are flying Spirit and they told me that it wasn't Spirit saying that they will get them on another carrier. They booked through Orbitz and it will be Orbitz that will get them on another flight, but the flight has to be cancelled first because of the strike.

I found this bit of news this AM online http://www.eturbonews.com/16619/airline ... eep-flying I also called because I bought our tickets at seperate times and incase we do get rerouted on other carriers I wanted to be sure we werent seperated from our kids on different flights. The guy I spoke to this morning kept telling me my route would not be affected...not to worry. But with us flying so close to the deadline..kinda hard not too but I have to wonder why he told me that or are they telling everyone that..maybe the CEO is running away to St Thomas Hehe..If anyone hears anything else...please post it here as well..

Found this article on USA Today's website. I don't think it has any new information, but at least we're seeing more media coverage.

Here's an official press release from Spirit:

Spirit Airlines Comments on Negotiations with ALPA

Miramar, Florida (June 8, 2010) – Negotiations continue this week in Washington, D.C. between Spirit and its pilot union at the National Mediation Board.

Many issues have been resolved.

This week’s negotiations are focused on the remaining issues which center around pay rate and productivity.

While Spirit is committed to reaching a fair and equitable deal, the company has also developed plans to continue operations and is working with customers whose flights may be affected.

I just checked ours for wednesday and the website is saying all on time as scheduled. I also checked tomorrows status on their homepage just to see what it would tell me for the flight from MB to STT is also showing on time and scheduled as planned...so who knows...guess we will have to wait and see...I think we will all be last minute to find out anything depending on if they strike or not...However I bet there were some upset people that their flights had been cancelled and no strike as of yet..

Just wanted to add my recent Spirit experience with all the crap that's going on. We left St. John Thursday afternoon and caught our flight from STT to FLL at 4pm. We were supposed to catch another flight from FLL to DC and be home at 10:30pm Thursday.

Well when we checked in at STT we only got one boarding pass for the flight to FLL. Thought that was odd but we were also supposed to be on the same exact plane for the second leg of our journey. We got to FLL and found out the flight to DC was cancelled along with 4 other flights to other parts of the country. No one told us this until we saw it on the list of departures as being cancelled. I'm also convinced one of the flight attendants on our first flight was drunk or something. She fumbled her way through the safety stuff, forgot what city we were flying to, and then when we asked where to go for the DC flight she said "I don't know". Then we heard later that she fell down or something in the terminal. Anyways, we had to wait in a line with everyone from those flights to figure out how to get home. After 3 hours we had vouchers for a hotel room, dinner, breakfast and lunch, as well as a flight to DC on US Airways Friday at noon.

Sure it sucked, but I thought they handled it really well. Also, the leg room on the US Air flight was glorious compared to the Spirit planes. And the free sodas! Next time I'll just spend the extra money to fly another airline out of BWI.

The bright side of it all is I got an extra day off work.

So, should we wait it out and see if our flights actually fly? Or do we try to get a refund and book on another airline before it ends up being too late/too expensive/no seats available?

I've never had to book a flight last minute. Is it a bit of a crapshoot as to getting a decent flight?
