Provisioning Tips For First Time Sailors
Provisioning Tips For First Time Sailors
How in the world do you begin (and successfully complete) a provisioning list? We have 3 couples plus the Captain for 7 nights. We want to have enough supplies but not over buy. Tips? Suggestions? Items not to forget? Thanks so much in advance! Love that ticker.

A small but important tip. Do NOT bring the boxes you carry the provisions in on the boat. Take the items out of the box and carry on the boat individually. Roaches love to hang out in the corrugated cardboard down there and you do not want them getting onto the boat. Of course, if you are going to do this by just going to the grocery store yourself, then the bags are ok. We have always had the boat stocked for us and this is the tip the provision people told me.
I think you make your list based on your wants and tastes, much like your regular grocery shopping list. So, I'd get together with your group and talk about likes and dislikes and how many meals you'll plan to eat on the boat and how many ashore. I'll share with you our list of provisions (for 2): We plan on 4 on-board dinners (i.e. chicken, fish, steak for grilling, pasta, one night of leftovers) and 4-5 lunches on-board and breakfast on board daily and we usually don't need to buy anything else throughout the week, except maybe more ice and we had minimal leftovers:
