Baseball Playoffs
I guess I will root for the Phillies. I have alot of respect for the Yankees...but being from Lancaster PA....gotta go with the Phils.

Come on .. can't you root just a smidge????

Bev and I are meeting up on Wednesday night to drink beer, eat wings and throw things at each other.
Go Yankees!
The Philly-area sports radio, as always, fails to disappoint.
I heard someone this morning...in all seriousness...explain how only A-Rod could start on the Phils.
OK...keep on believin' kids

Ah jeez guess I gotta defend me bringing up Kim Jones. Sure those immediate on field post game interviews are big softball questions, and she does allow herself to get too caught up in the moment (hence the fawning), but I've seen better stuff later on out of the lockeroom in her secondary and tertiary questions.
Plus the NY Giants columns she used to write in the Star Ledger were insightful, as well as when she can get into more detailed observations on her substitute stints on WFAN.
Any Yankee fan who might be overconfident is nuts. The Phils have a good team and chutzpah.
My daughter cracked on my age this morning in the car - they said Yanks and Phils hadnt played each other in WS in 59 yrs.
I said "I didnt think it was in my lifetime."
Punk daughter says: "Almost"
Ouch.

Probably won't even be watching. Although, I may be enticed to turn on the game if Pedro (Who's Your Daddy?) Martinez were to pitch one of the games in New York. (Game 7 maybe?)mbw1024 wrote: Come on .. can't you root just a smidge????
It's weird to hear A-Rod referred to as a "rookie". Should he continue to do well, every other slumping athlete will be after Kate Hudson

I really don't think the caller on Philly radio was that far off...Here's a look:
Right Field
Jason Werth
BA .268, HR 36, RBI 99, Runs 98 SB 20
Nick Swisher (21 of his 29 HR's came on the road)
BA .249, HR 29, RBI 82, Runs 84
I'll take Werth...Yankee fans have been pining for Swisher to be benched since Game 2 of the ALCS
Centerfield
Shane Victorino
BA .292, HR 10, RBI 62, Runs 102, SB 25
Melky Cabrera
BA .274, HR 13, RBI 68, Runs 66
Victorino is one of the most underrated players in the game, and is one of those pesky players that just kind of gets under your skin. Melky is...Melky. Ho hum, .275 hitter with little pop. GREAT arm in CF though.
Left Field
Raul Ibanez
BA .272, HR 34, RBI 93, Runs 93
Hideki Matsui
BA .274, HR 28, RBI 90 Runs 62
These two are very similar players, even in the way they approach their games. Ibanez is a "late bloomer" who has turned himself into a very good left handed hitter with lots of pop.
Lets forego the third base comparison.
Shortstop
Jimmy Rollins
BA .250, HR 21, RBI 77, Runs, 100, SB 31
Derek Jeter (probably his career year)
BA .334, HR 18, RBI 66, Runs 107, SB 30
Both great players...Rollins was the MVP of the NL a few years ago, and is still very young. He started over Jeter in this spring's World Baseball Classic for the US team.
If I were starting a team, I'd take Rollins. But if it's October and I'm trying to win a championship? Jeter, hands down. Give me Hanley Ramirez over both of them, but I digress...
Second Base
Chase Utley
BA .282, HR 31, RBI 93, Runs 112, SB 23
Robinson Cano
BA .320, HR 25, RBI 85, Runs 103
Looks like Cano has emerged from his slumber and started to become the player that Michael Kay has been drooling over for three years. I still take Pedroia over him, but I am a homer. And Pedroia is the better baseball player...Unfortunately, he's playing golf.
Utley is the best offensive second baseman in the game, and he is not prone to mental lapses as is Cano. No doubt in my mind, give me Utley.
First Base
Ryan Howard
BA .279, HR 45, RBI 141, Runs 103
Mark Texiera
BA .292, HR 39, RBI 122, Runs 103
Wow. This is a good one. Maybe a slight edge to Tex because he is a switch hitter. But man, Howard is lethal with the bat. And he's on a roll. Tex has done nothing in these playoffs, other than to play his normal stellar defense. Howard has improved on D though...Howard only hits .207 with just 6 of his HR's vs. left-handed pitching, so Sabathia will neutralize him.
I guess I take Tex, but you can't go wrong with either guy.
Don't have time for pitching now.

I thought I read that Pedro was slated for a Game 3 start in Philly, not Game 2 in NY.
You guys don't think Charlie Manuel is crazy, do you?

Story broke this morning on Philly radio:
“Phillies manager Charlie Manuel told a Philadelphia radio station Tuesday morning that Pedro Martinez will start Game 2 of the World Series against the Yankees on Thursday at Yankee Stadium. Cole Hamels will start Game 3 in Philadelphia, Manuel told WPHT Radio. “
