ALCS - Loge behind home plate
We were on island last year as the Phils were trying to wrap up the WS. Granted, i wanted them to win, but prayed they went to 7 games so we'd be back for the parade. All week I kept reminding everyone in our party that it was very important to me to watch the 2nd half of the last game at Skinny's, as I wanted to be around sports/Phils fans when they won. Unfortunately, everyone else decided to stay at the villa and play scrabble that night, so I sat alone on the couch & listened to Harry call that last strike...
All that said, I hear you! As you know, we land the 7th as well, and if we're still in it, let's get together to catch a game.

Thats funny Pip. The 2 ladies in my house don’t get the whole yelling at the TV thing (either in joy OR despair). My wife says “you’re upsetting the dog!”
The ONLY time they got it was when they actually watched that compelling end of Super Bowl drive by the Giants.
THEN they were jumping up and down WITH me (sorry Sox/NE fans – didn’t mean to pour salt on your recent wound).

I hope that you all can accept me here even though I'm -- gasp -- a Tigers fan.
But all your talking about angry language and scaring others reminded me that during game 163, I was throwing things at my TV and screaming (especially when Inge got hit by the ball and didn't get to take his base, but I digress). Finally at some point in one of my temper tantrums I realized I had all the windows in the house open and my neighbor was walking by with her dog. I'm glad she didn't think I was having a domestic with some guy named Rodney and call the cops on me!
Now I must get back to work before my boss realizes I was goofing off. I just needed a sanity break, and with everything I've been through lately I am sure no one would begrudge me that.
Anyhow, I hope someone's team wins. Now that the Twins got spanked by the Yankees, I am done caring until Spring Training in Lakeland.

That's funny. On a similar note, my first spring here in NC, I watched Duke go out in the NCAAs. That, in itself, made me very happy. The windows were open too. the wails of despair from the neighborhood made me even happier.Lulu76 wrote: I'm glad she didn't think I was having a domestic with some guy named Rodney and call the cops on me!
Partial hijack of thread alert!
(but OK since I started the thread, and it still pertains to “playoffs”, but of a different kind)
Major props to the US Soccer team for clinching the top spot in the North/Central American region for World Cup qualifying last night in DC, only a day after team member Charlie Davies was seriously injured in a car accident that killed another person. They still would’ve qualified if they lost, but their dramatic last second goal got them the top spot and forces Costa Rica into an extra playoff game.
I know hardly any Americans care about soccer, but I do for these reasons: an uncle had season tickets to the Cosmos so I went to a lot of those games in Giants Stadium in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s when they had one of the best teams in the world and they regularly out drew the Yankees and Mets. So, I was introduced to and fell in love with the “beautiful game” being played at the highest levels (I also enjoyed looking at all the beautiful women of so many different cultures that attended those games).
Also, the current US goalie Tim Howard is a hometown hero.
I gotta get me to a World Cup tournament some day - one of the only TRUE team sport “World Championships”. The last one in Germany 3 yrs ago woulda been a blast.
Back to baseball: awful awful weather predicted for the Bronx on Friday AND Saturday. Be prepared for watching some delayed, sloppy baseball.

It was sad to see the Sox blow it and everyone is to blame. Oh well, 2009 is ovah! GO ANGELS SPANK THE YANKS!liamsaunt wrote:Boston Mike, I agree with you.
I was at the game yesterday. The mood was bad from the moment we came into the park. Even when we were ahead, it just felt wrong. I think they brought Papelbon in too early...Wagner was doing OK. When Papelbon came out to warm up, his pitches were crazy, all over the place. You could tell his head was not right. I have some pictures of him during his warm up and he looks panicked. All the players looked really tired.
I had awesome field box seats for tonight's non-existant game...how often can you get those? Oh well, at least I can get a good night's sleep. I have a chest cold anyway so...and I can put the refunded $$ from tonight's game and my ALCS tickets towards a St. John trip. Just trying to stay positive.
Predictions for the Sox 2010.
Hanley Ramirez at SS in a big trade involving Drew, Delcarmen and a few youngsters from AA.
Paplebon is out and Bard takes over.
Life begins where the land ends!
That Manny Ramirez is an unbelievable hitter. When he was in Boston, Jerry Remy would often comment on how Manny would actually "set up" the pitcher (it generally works in reverse)...He did it again tonight. Hamels had beaten Manny consistently with that changeup in his first two at bats, with Manny out on his front foot...then in his third at bat, Manny was sitting on that changeup, as Hamels was lulled into a bit of complacency. The most complete and balanced hitter I have ever seen, steroids or not.
Oh, not to mention smart, with an unbelievable work ethic.

Unbelievable that Pedro still had another rabbit to pull out his hat in game 2 and maybe the Phils are up 3 - 0 if he wasn’t pulled, but Torre’s choices for HIS starters have been a bit curious. In general, there seems to be an awful lot of “over-managing” in the playoffs.
This TV driven scheduling is officially out of control – too many days off, weird starting times, etc.
And all you A-Rod haters: 7 for 19, 8 RBI, 3 late game tying HRs.

The Yankees go from a manager (Torre) who had such a big doghouse that he overused his favorites, now to a manager who wants to empty the pen. Girardi, you are killing me. And it will be his turn to get killed by the NY media tomorrow.
