Caneel closing in October

Post by mindehankins »

Does anyone know if we could still park in their lot to get to Honeymoon? Could we check out their beaches (gypsies in the palace style)? Are there any worth checking out?

We parked there in May and walked to Honeymoon. I would think that you still can.

Duh, sorry, I didn't realize Caneel will be closed while you are there  . I have no idea if you will be able to park there.

Yes you can. Tell them Pedro sent you. And they love it when you use the beach chairs.

I would think that they will have the gates closed if the resort is closed but they may be there working on the resort. I would not plan on it.

Then which would be the easier hike: from the National Park Svc building or Lindt Point? Is the National Park Svc route pretty flat? I wear contacts only so I can snorkel, and I had a heck of a time with my footing on the Lindt Point trail (no depth perception).

Hi Minde,

On Gerald Singer's website, he says that once you park at the Visitors Center there are two different trails to get to Honeymoon. One way is easier but has no views, and there's a harder one that brings you up on the ridgeline for water views. Here is a link that explains better than I could:

It appears that people are parking out by the road, across from the entrance, and walking in from there. I'm sure you can't wander the whole property--and all the security force is still on the job these two months-- but at least you could go through to Honeymoon. I'll find out more for you soon.

I noticed the cars parked on the road today as well. Also wondering which is the shorter walk, trail behind the visitors center or from the road in front of Caneel.

Definitely shorter, and a lot shadier, going through Caneel.

Thanks for the info, Hugo! That's great. Such an easier trip in for the visually impaired!
And Becky, thanks for pointing out that what starts behind the National Park Service IS the Lindt trail!

For the first time ever, the Caneel Bay Resort has closed its doors to guests.

The resort, which has welcomed guests to its charming, low-key North Shore property for more than 50 years, closed on September 1 and will not reopen until October 31.

During the two-month closure, no residents or guests are allowed on the resort’s property; however, its Honeymoon and Caneel beaches are still open to the public, which must access the beaches by foot from North Shore Road.

Guards at the Caneel Bay Resort entrance will only grant access by foot to Caneel Bay and Honeymoon beaches. Cars cannot park on the resort property during its closure.
