Last chance for Maho?
I'm hoping that anyone who challenges anyone else to make a large donation to try to save Maho has already made a donation themself. And I'm hoping that anyone who is hoping that wealthy celebrities will step up and do what they can has already stepped up themself and done what they could. We all have good intentions that we either act on or don't. I'm not trusting in some celebrity Santa Claus, hoping that they bail out Maho.
I wouldn't count on anyone doing this for us. I want to do my part. Everybody should. Maho and my memories of it are much too important to me to not donate some money and put out some effort to try to save it. Even if it's too late to keep the campground, the land can be protected from development.
Have you made a donation? If so, that's wonderful. If not, why not? Really, why not? I think it's time to step up and I'm not certain how many people are. I'm not picking up much enthusiasm for this on the forum. I'd pretty much resigned myself to the Maho land getting snatched up by developers (and it certainly looked like Stanley was expecting the same), so this possibly last opportunity is very precious.

I actually see alot of people on this board doing whatever they can to make this a reality.
I am just not sure where all the negativity from you is coming from. This is jmo and maybe I am way off base. If so I apologize
TPL is a very very strong organization and they are working all angles so I believe John Garrison.. I do.
I can not speak for what people on St. John are doing but I really feel VIOL is stepping up and doing something even with whatever donations we can make

Not sure if the information was 100% solid - but while at Maho two weeks ago, local photag Steve Simonson gave a talk about the Island. He stated that he had spoken with the folks at the TPL who told him that they had entered into an exclusive negotiation period with the owners of the property; that it had been taken off the market; and that they felt confident they would reach a deal prior to the expiration of the Lease in 2011. He stated that the TPL would then enter into a new lease with Stanley (with stipulations for some upgrades - which would include the access road).
Again - not sure how accurate this is, but if is is, this is great news for those of us who love the Maho experience!
