Where I stand with PMs
Where I stand with PMs
I've mentioned this before and thought I'd like to restate it. I get the occasional PM. I greatly enjoy most of them and I really appreciated some thoughtful ones that I received just today. I replied to those folks and thanked them. I'm keeping the contents to myself, as I generally do.
Now and then, though, I get a fairly weird one. As I see it, I have no obligation of any sort to keep the message private. The sender sent the recipient an unsolicited message. The recipient entered into no agreement to keep the contents private. Anytime I receive a particularly bizarre PM, I consider posting it, just so the rest of the forum can share in the weirdness. Just wanted to suggest that no one send me anything in a PM that they wouldn't want posted on the forum.

Ditto! I will say I have not gotten a single ugly PM. Surprising, I know! I have gotten a few pms from those who may seem to be my political/ideological opposite making peace and being very polite. Those I very much appreciate. I also get a lot of supportive, thanks for fighting the good fight PMs.
Perhaps it is a sign of sickness, but I enjoy the discourse and the back and forth. Usually it is intellectually stimulating, sometimes it's a bit scary. Some posters I disregard out of hand and don't even read their comments because they do nothing but inflame. I have from time to time had to expand my way of thinking and been able to at least see the other end of the spectrum. In some ways I am more firm in my original beliefs and in other ways I have been able to adapt and evolve my ways of thinking. I like the intellectual challenge but I see no challenge in "black is black, white is white...the end" but that's just me.
Blind faith is fine for some, it just doesn't work for me.

Re: Where I stand with PMs
I wouldn't think of PM'ing anything that I wouldn't post in a forum. But then again I wouldn't call a forum member a troll and not have the guts to either stand behind my statement or apologize.Lex wrote:I've mentioned this before and thought I'd like to restate it. I tend to agree with Connie that a private message is just that.... a private message. But if someone is using the PM system to launch personal attacks behind the scenes, then I say post it. I posted one when I was ambushed behind the scenes because I thought it was a chicken shit underhanded attack and in my opinion, I thought everyone should know what this person was doing "in the background". Attacking someone through a PM is NOT cool.
I just ignore ignorant PM's and posts. Responding just encourages the cretins.
Now, if I could just figure out how to make a living on the "Plan my vacation for me" <edit>PM</edit" questions....
Cheers, RickG

Rick-- sadly, I was thinking the same thing on the "plan my vacation for me thing."
I don't mind being helpful.. but sheesh... Google can be your best friend.
Note to newbies... we aren't travel agents ... it's usually helpful to have at least ATTEMPTED to do some research before asking the forum a question.
