What a shame, but the info Jay provides shows the owner is less than responsible. At the very least one would hope he made arrangements to have someone check the boat regularly. Some peps have more money than brains :-)

As the boat is slamming in to the rocks you can say, "Oh, I think we're going to hit those rock thingys!"

What's interesting is that both boats appear to have been moored in the same vicinity.

Might want to double down while anchoring the mooring ball.

Honestly I wouldn't put it past someone to have purposely released the mooring to clear a coveted spot for themselves.

These spots are hard to come by right?

Did I just open a can of worms?

I don't remember posting that comment yesterday. But it sounds like something I'd say as I'm going to sleep.

Bev, that sounds exactly what I'd say!

She came loose this AM just before 10. Our neighbor spotted it and put the locals into action. By the time they could get out to her, she was already on the rocks. Sea tow came from St. Thomas and attempted to move her but it was just too dangerous where she was sitting.

Now, sadly, the tide has moved in and is pounding her against the rocks. As you can see, she is wedged in there.

Sadly, another boat capsized on Tuesday and is floating inverted in Chocolate Hole too. You can see the doomed sailboat right behind the capsized boat in this picture from yesterday.

Been a rough week for boats.
That boat is adrift in the second picture. It's mooring spot is way in towards the beach closer to where my boat used to be.

Every time I see that pic of the boat on the rocks, it makes me so sad. :(

Such a beautiful boat.

Captain John,
That is where the lawsuit begins. Someone moved it off it's original mooring to this one and then it came loose.

Capt. John...silly question. Does that happen where someone will release someone else's boat to get the mooring? Is that possible? I know they're hard to come by. I'm just Deck Fluff and don't know these things...

Capt John did not say someone moved it - he said it was adrift in the 2cnd pic - it is possibly just dragging his own mooring ball along not connected to the ground tackle or just drifting by the mooring ball near it in the picture.
In any case it is a disaster.
Moving a boat off of a legal mooring is not a practice you would want to be held responsible for.
Freeing it on purpose to take over the spot is 100% criminal.

The boat was on that mooring ball by the capsized boat. It has been there for at least a month. The ball is still there, the boat came off the mooring.
