Good for you ! Go for it! I'm just about in the same "boat" as you...''
I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks than in the drink with a boat on the rocks

Good for you, Boston Mike! I hope you have a great vacation, and that something comes along for you soon (sounds like you could have a tshirt business if you wanted!).
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Good God man, I really got to buy you a drink at the BB on the 17th.... This is just gettting hardcore...I really hope you land square into a better place my friend. Just makes me look forward to the trip even more and I hope we can all help make your small slice of island life something that will have you forgetting there is anything else, if only for a short time... I am sorry for your bad news...

Another Downsizing Victim Says "Heck With It"

Post by TanManSam »

Way too many of these stories on this board.

I too was laid off earlier this year. We came really close to cancelling our June trip -- even called our rental company and canceled the villa, acknowledging that we'd lose the 50 percent deposit. Not to mention the air fare we had already paid.

Then, cooler heads prevailed.

We have savings (Even though it was supposed to be for retirement). Child No. 2 graduates from college in May, so the final tuition bill is behind us. Child No. 3 doesn't begin college for another four years.

We're going. We need this.

The rental company was delighted to un-cancel our cancellation.

Put me down for one of those T-shirts...and a tank for the lovely wife.

You've made the right decision. As my career counselor told me when I raised doubts about our decision to go in March, "No one ever regrets going on vacation or spending too much time with their children."

Since getting back I feel great and I'm looking forward to something entirely different and new. But if I won the lottery on Saturday first thing I'd do with the money is go back to St John to think about what I'd do with the rest of it.

Have a nice vacation. Something great is just around the corner.

Way to go tanman!

I have learned from past experience that when you do have a desire to do something, you just go do it. No matter what roadblock you hit, drive around it. Life is just too damn short my friend.

Enjoy your trip. :D

I'm so sorry to hear about the job loss, Boston Mike :( . There are better days ahead for someone with your attitude, though :D

My hubby and I are in the "we can't afford it, shouldn't be doing it" boat along with alot of other people, but you know what? We NEED to go so we can remember who we are again......
