I am officially in charge of planning vacations in my household.

I have recently been put in charge of organizing a whole bunch of friends going to St John for our friends wedding. As I am the best man, and the only one with STJ experience, I am basically telling people where to stay and what they are going to do.

I don't mind that role -I enjoy it in fact -except when you have everything all planned (not easy to do with a group of 12) and all of a sudden one of my pickel head friends says something along the lines of "I talked to a guy outside and they were going to Jost and it sounded cool, why don't we go there?"

It will happen at least 5 times this trip, guaranteed.

If there is any doubt about who controls the money in the US, the above posts should answer that question :)

I think I crushed the planner in my husband long ago. Which is bad. Very bad.
I'm the planner, list keeper, calendar maker, you name it.
Right about now, a month out, he starts looking forward to the trip. Otherwise it doesn't enter his thoughts.

Funny thing though .. when we were in STJ he planned a trip for my 40th bday. When he finally got around to telling me the details - flights and lodging arrangements - I felt SO bad because I had to point out that the flight plan was screwed up! The trip was to Key West and we were flying in and out and FLL. However, he booked a morning return flight not taking in to account that we had to drive back from Key West and short of getting up at 3am we were never going to make it! LOL
 I believe his response was "no wonder I don't plan the vacations!".

I do it all. And while I occasionally complain that I DO EVERYTHING, I suspect I would hate it if I didn't. Control freak, who me????

"Hello, My name is Toni and I am the travel planner" :D

Over the years my friends/family have found out that if they're going somewhere on vacation it doesn't hurt to ask me if I have any info to lend them. Chances are I have multiple books to share. I love the whole planning thing-hours on the computer researching to find the best deal. Since we own a vineyard I know what months are "do-able" and what aren't and that's where the planning starts. I involve my husband in all the decisions, but he doesn't have near the interest or concern about the details that I do. Ultra control freak that I am.... Comes from growing up in a family where none of the trips were planned out and as a result we'd drive for miles in the night trying to find a motel.... but that's another story. :(

This way it's all organized and my much better half knows that it makes me happy so sweetie that he is he humors me and goes along for the ride.

If I didn't plan all our trips, we'd never go anywhere. That even counts for going out to dinner and movies. I'm not sure if he's a workaholic or just boring.

Oh these replies are so funny! I never thought about being a control freak  I just thought I was "better at it".
And I had no idea that other couples were like us! My hubby knows absolutely nothing about the trip, and that's just fine with him. Me....I couldn't stand that.
But I am NOT a control freak.
I swear.

We vacation with a group of friends every year and I am the planner. I think the main reason is that I can find my way around the internet much easier than any of them can and I also love to read travel guides.

The best part of being the planner is that I get to do what I want to do!

Packing is another issue...my wife is the packing planner!

I’m the planner, and the one who take the initiative for a vacation. I’m also the ”packer” – for my hubby too.

I make a list from home about where we have to stay (we often stay in different places), and what we are going to see or do at the place. One of the reasons for my planning is- like PA girl tells too- that I hate to use a lot of time discussing, what we are going to do during the day. My family sometimes tease me, because it’s not always we follow my plan, so why make it? But I know that we save time having a plan, even though the plan isn’t followed.

But I have to tell that I never ever have had such a detailed plan, as I had, when we visited USVI.
Thanks to the Forum I had a lot of information about restaurants, beaches etc. And not only names of restaurants. I also have written down what people have recommended of food. Hubby couldn’t believe it, when I told him about it. :D :D
