Who plans your trips?
The packing question made me think about how my hubby doesn't even pack his own stuff. He doesn't know anything about the trips, either. I do all of the planning and he just shows up!
Who plans your trips?
Who plans your trips?
Definitely ME.
Though we do have a minitrip coming up Mother's Day weekend (which also coincides with our 10th anniversary) that he has planned. I am a little afraid. AND he is planning our big 20th anniversary of being together trip for 2011. I have no clue what is in store but I am trying to quiet my inner control freak!

I am Julie the Cruise Director for our yearly group trips. I book the villa. I email/invite various folks and tempt them with emails complete with photos. I collect the deposits; I coordinate the flights to get everyone in around the same time; I arrange the rental jeeps and book the boat trip. Once we have our confirmed group (9 this year!), I sent out periodic email updates, complete with newbie advice (we always have a few
. My reward for all this work - I always get the master bedroom, and I get to spend a week in my favorite place with my favorite people - priceless!!

Me...though the Mrs more or less allows me to do it. she usually has good ideas but lets me have them as my own so I feel good.
Our pals from NJ just write checks and provide credit card numbers as needed. On the appointed day, they drive to Newark and get on a plane. Several hours later, they arrive in STT. They follow the detailed instructions I have emailed to them and meet us on St John. Not that they're idiots or anything...they just really prefer to have "Julie" do the planning for them.
I'm a total control freak so I NEED to have planning control. I also love to make lists and finally got smart and saved the St John 2008 list. That way, I don't have to re-write it for 2010.

John actually does a lot of the planning for our trips to St. John. He picks the dates (because his work schedule is less flexible than mine). He chooses the flights, and he is really involved with the villa choice. He is the keeper of the "villa spreadsheet" and he is a LOT pickier than I am. In all of our trips, we've only stayed at the villa that was my first choice once. Ironically, it turned out to be the one we had the most issues with.
Once we get there, though, I am in charge. I pick the beaches and the restaurants. You know, the important decisions.
And, of course, I do all of the packing.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Me Me Me!!!! I plan everything!
There is no way I could let myself turn it over to hubby. Half the fun is the planning! We have three newbies coming with us and I have been emailing them pictures, packing lists, updates, asked for money for deposits etc. In one email I asked if I had annoyed them with all of the planning. Funny thing, none of them ever answered that question!

ME!
Every last detail.
Which is funny, because in every other aspect of life my husband is much more the take charge, control freak kind of person. But when it comes to trips, travel, vacations, etc. it's allll me.
He tells me "You plan it, I'll go."
I save spreadsheets for every place that we travel to (and every place we could potentially go) just in case we go back. My list for St. John is divided into categories:
- To Do (sub cats: Activities, Beaches, Restaurants)
- To buy before trip
- To buy on island
- To pack
- Playlist
- Budget
You'd think I was type A, but I'm really not. Certain things just bring it out!
