You guys on the left are getting a bit carried away with this "authorization of force" issue with Obama. It's a little nitpicky, but the FACTS are that all President Obama did in that situation was to confirm the existing Rules of Engagement, which would allow for our military to shoot to kill if a US Citizen's life was in jeopardy.

He did not order an "Active Rescue", which would have escalated the mission, coming from the US President.

I too, am happy with the way the entire thing turned out. But to make a hero out of President Obama for simply confirming the ROE is a bit over the top.

Finally, the ROE that were acted upon here would've been left in place from the Bush Administration. It would make sense that the commanders would want to confirm to be sure that under a new presidency, those rules they were operating under only four months ago had not changed.

Great job by all - but the snipers and the captain should be the focus of your admiration, not a president who said nothing publicly about the incident for a week. In fact, after about three days into the standoff, a WH pool reporter asked Obama in a presss conference about the Somali Pirate standoff - and Obama quickly said "Ahhh, Ahhh...we're talking about housing here, folks". In other words, the teleprompter wasn't loaded to discuss the pirate situation.

I only saw a small clip of that when Chavez handed Obama a book. Obama looked less than pleased.

Ok, I know this will piss some people off, but that's not why I'm posting it. I'm posting this joke because I think it's funny, regardless of political affiliation. And besides I think it's gone around before with other names in place of Obama's. I believe I got it a couple of years ago with Bush's name in it...and I thought it was funny then, too!

Everyone needs to lighten up a little and have a laugh! :D

The Lie Clock

A man died and went to heaven. As
he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks
behind him.

He asked, "What are those clocks?"

St. Peter answered,
"Those are Lie Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie Clock. Every time you tell a
lie, the hands on your clock will move."

"Oh," said the man, "whose clock
is that?"

"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating
that she never told a lie."

"Incredible," said the man, "and whose clock
is that?"

St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands
have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his
life."

"Where's President Obama's clock?" asked the man.

"Obama's
clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling
fan."

Who knows, Lex. It's just a joke. There's probably not an ounce of truth in it.

First of all, the fact that our Pres. accepted an anti American, hate filled book, full of lies about our country is a disgrace. The fact that he did it with such a grin on his face is disgusting. Chavez is a murdering dictator. Why do we need him as a friend? Maybe for oil? Why did he go and kiss the Saudi prince's ass......maybe for oil??? We have our own oil, but for some reason I still don't get, it's OK for them to drill, but not us.

I am ashamed to call that man our Pres. and I don't think he has the character or integrity to shine GW's
shoes. The sooner the masses "get" who this guy really is, the better. I have no doubt that will happen, in spite of the love fest the media has with O. and his wife.

Not sure if you saw this, Cypress...But over the weekend, David Axelrod (Obama's top advisor - his Karl Rove) was aked what he thought of the Tea Parties...He said he thought they were "unhealthy".

Then went into his "I don't know why people are upset, 95% of them just got a tax cut"...What he should've said was "those ingrates! we're trying to change the foundation of this country's socioeconomic system!...we're moving from capitalism to socialism as breakneck speed here...that tax cut should've kept them appeased for at least 6 months!".

And of course, he is lying. It is NOT a tax cut...It is a TAX CREDIT. Again, we will all have to claim that as income on our 2009 taxes. It's all smoke and mirrors with these guys.

Ok, ok, ok...I think I'm finally getting it. Wow, have my eyes been opened by all these irrefutable facts I've been reading. I've got to go now...I'm going to replace my living room portrait of Karl Mark with one of Karl Rove....I've been saved!

Kidding aside, I truly am a centrist. I just can't resist playing devil's advocate. Some people are just too easy to fire up.I've chased many windmills in my life and eventually you have to move on. Maybe this entire discourse will make some impact on folks on either side. When you see extremes, it makes moderation seem all the more rational. That's all we really need is for people to chill out and agree to disagree. This is America and with freedom of belief and freedom of speech comes the responsibility of tolerance. Without tolerance of others beliefs you aren't really free....besides, nobody is right all of the time. Not in reality or ideology.

On that note I'll withdraw from this discussion.
Still waiting to return to St. John!

I may have to replace my Obama on the mantle with you Cid. Well said. It is a responsiblity to be tolerant. It is SO much easier to be intolerant and break people into neat little worlds of evildoer and good.

There's that "T" word again. I guess eventually it will be legal and perfectly OK for a guy to marry his poodle, all in the name of tolerance and "choice". I try (struggle) to live by the 10 commandments, and there's a lot of intolerance in those words. Pretty straight forward and black and white to me. We are commanded to love each other.......hate the sin, love the sinner kind of thing. That's a tuff one. If some thug murdered my daughter, I wouldn't be loving, forgiving, or tolerant. I guess many of you are a better person than I.

God Bless America.........please.
