Tea Parties...........WDYT??
I'm watching some of the coverage on Fox mostly, since the networks don't want to cover it too much, but it is actually pretty interesting to see the diversity of the crowds. Don't see too many top 1%ers, but a lot of Republicans, Dems, and Independants. Just a lot of normal working folks that are are fed up with this out of control spending the gov. it shoving down our throat. It seems like both sides are scared of this terrible debt we've found ourselves facing. I blame George Bush for spending twice as much as he said he would, and this current administration and Congress seems to want to control every aspect of our life.
Scary stuff!!
I don't think the Tea Parties will help this out of control spending, but it is kind of refreshing. No one, on either side, wants to leave our kids and grandkids with the kind of debt we're facing.
I hope this doesn't offend or come off as political, just American.
I know we all love this country, it's just that some pay more attention to things like this than others.

I'm truly an independent in the middle. Here's what I have observed over the years. Both parties play the victim role after they lose and a ton of people buy into it. I have to say that the Republicans are the sorer winners and losers. Sorry Republicans, but your party took a balanced budget and ran up a ginourmous deficit. Sure we had two wars, but it didn't stop all your rich buddies from getting huge payouts. Now we're supposed to listen to you when you say the government is spending too much? Didn't the biggest financial boondoggle in history happen on your watch? I'm not taking advice from former Enron execs either....Although the Dems have made a lot of changes, I haven't heard them try to ram any phony "Contract with America" crap down my throat yet. I'll give them some more time to thoroughly disgust me, but until then, I'll hold on to my teabags and ignore the Chicken Little "the sky is falling rhetoric" from the critics.
I don't know where on the river it happened.cypressgirl wrote:Wow.......is that like a Golden Gate Bridge kind of kill you river, or just get wet and dirty? Things seem peaceful so far. I'll listen and see if they mention anything about it.
I did hear that some people threw some actual tea bags over the White House fence. I'm not sure what good that would do.
The highest of the bridges (there are several) in the area is probably 30 feet (people jump off in the summer all the time) but the water is rather shallow this time of year and still quite cold, I am guessing 45 to 50 degrees right now.
She was fished out right away. Waiting for tomorrow's paper for the details.
I was just playing with you. All the stuff I hear about the "left coast"....California Girl wrote:I live in Orange County, So. Cal. Pretty mellow place... what would you be scared of??
...the tea parties were bigger here. Personally, while I am conservative, I think the idea is an interesting one but a little late.
Margo, while I have strong political opinions, I don't like mixing politics and friendship-I shouldn't have even teased about it. I usually don't even read the political threads here. Sorry.

Are you kidding? I am still angry over the S&L bailouts from the late 80s (early 90s) to the tune of 30+ billion that our children & grandchildren will be paying for during their lives. This most recent round of bailouts from 2008 will be paid for by my next five generations. It is complete insanity. Unfortunately how does it get fixed? Each party is corrupt in it's own manner, I too am not a party person. Too liberal to be conservative and too conservative to be a liberal. No one represents me at all. I wish when I paid my taxes, I could just pick and chose what I decide to pay for and get rid of the crap in the budget. Seriously the only way to change our current system would be another revolution, and the ending would probably be several different countries - not united anymore. Is that better? Doubt it. Have I ever voted for a candidate? No, I vote against the opposition. Just once, I would like to vote for someone I thought would be a great leader. Just once.

You have nothing to be sorry about! I didn't take any offense at all. I'm in the middle like Cid and I find positives and negatives about both parties.djmom wrote: Margo, while I have strong political opinions, I don't like mixing politics and friendship-I shouldn't have even teased about it.
