Ahh Diddy - What a sweet woman. Always with that hibiscus flower behind her ear. We were fortunate enough to be invited for cocktails several times - and listen to her stories of Ethel McCully. What a lady! Thanks for putting a smile on my face this chilly morning. :)

Yes Diddy is quite a lady. She used to sit on the beach and hang with my grandma. After my grandma passed away, I told her she was my adopted Caribbean grandma. Our family became close and even had Thanksgiving dinner at her house twice. Her daughter still lives on island and my parents always meet up with them when they are down. Diddy is doing well. She had a stroke about 2 years ago and tried staying down in the islands. She now lives up here on the mainland and is doing well, but misses her walk to the beach.

remember the Kite on the northshore road?

Yes, the Kite, also...

The Out, The Inn, Daniels, Upper Deck, Pool Hall, Hilltop and in Coral Bay Sputnick and Flamingo were the places to be on labor day and those great fish frys at pond mouth! African Roots (band before Cool Sessions and Prophecy (band before Inner Visions) I remember when no one ever locked their doors never a reason to. I remember keys were left in the cars, and everyone knew you by what car you drove. I remember lots of beach parties where everyone would bring food and drinks and no one was ever turned away. But, most of all I remember my life long friendships I have made over the years. :)
Peace,
bj

I remember hitching out to Coral Bay to help my friends build the "Cowhorns" on the waterfront by the dinghy dock - and the little bar that became Redbeards always had a cooler of iced beer for us and the band "Creation" was playing at Sputnik. I love it when I see one of those boats out sailing now but don't know how many are still around.
