Taking Election Day OFF?
Huh, only 25% work FULLTIME while going to school. Those other 75% are complete slackers...no wait, they are probably too busy at frat parties, finding socialist mentors and volunteering for Obama to work full-time. They probably just work part time, while going to school.soxfan22 wrote:I guess I should've been more specific and said "work full time".
Only 25% of college students hold down a full-time job while attending school.
Maybe my school was more competitive than most, but I about killed myself going to school full time and working almost full time as an undergrad. I was insane. I envied those who worked part time or were fortunate enough to not HAVE to work.
I'm just curious what your point is here. Are you saying that unless one works full time, they are not worthy of getting involved? That only degenerates support Obama because they have the most to gain, and that is who the campaign is solely targeting? And they are the only ones taking the bait?soxfan22 wrote:I guess I should've been more specific and said "work full time".

I'm not trying to be snarky. I just can't believe that an obvious smart educated person, would discredit an individual like this, and I really don't want to misinterpret what you have posted.

Didn't you see the food stamps with Obama's picture on them (along with some watermelon and fried chicken, but no racism here!)? Of course only poor people without jobs support Obama! He's going to give them a free ride with his redistribution of wealth, because he is a godless Communist.
Or at least that's what I read in my e-mail this morning.

My original post was a tongue in cheek reference to some Obama supporters (in reference to him asking people to take the day off - I said I realize many of his people don't work). Someone asked me what I meant by that, and I said that students, which are a large part of his support, don't work full-time. Therefore making it easy for them to take the day off to drive people to the polls to elect our Saviour.cass wrote:I'm just curious what your point is here. It was a comment made in jest that X took very seriously. I guess the sam way I have taken many of the racism and warmonger charges towards the conservative side.

Hey Lulu.....is that the official party stance? I think some of my acquaintances down here in VA think it actually is. (Yeah....I know....I have some real redneck acquaintances.....) Half of them like everything you stated in such a tongue in cheek way, and the other half go absolutely nuts in anger over the same words.
Weird how this is all working out.

Quoting the source. Let's be fair and not quote out of context.
"Students who go straight from high school to college and, after studying at their parents' expense, leave the same campus four years later with a degree are now a minority at the nation's four-year schools, a new study says.
Presenting a portrait of today's college students from existing research, the American Council on Education said in a report released Monday about three-quarters of students work while earning a four-year degree. A quarter hold down full-time jobs.
"
Sounds right to me. Its how I went to school

That's what I said. 25% hold down full-time jobs. I think that's what I said.sailorgirl wrote:Quoting the source. Let's be fair and not quote out of context.

If you really want to get into this, lets wait and see the percentage of unemployed vs. employed who vote for both Obama and McCain.
I made my comment tongue in cheek, but there is a bit of truth there.

Sox - just when we are having a semi-civil discourse, you say EVEN MORE over the top stuff about Obama or bring the abortion stuff back into it or try to twist, parse, and/or call folks out with Y and Z when they state X. Not saying you are the only one who does this, but safe to say you may be the most egregious.
Aside from intentionally putting folks on the defensive, the “logic” of these baiting tactics escapes me and is why folks get fed up with you. And like I’ve said before, if you think these kinds inflammatory tactics bring more folks over to your side, it may be safe to say that the only thing it does is alienate the middle of the road folks and dilutes your legitimate concerns.
Don’t you get it that these often come off like trolling tactics i.e. intentionally provoking others into an emotional response just to disrupt the dialogue and/or bring attention to yourself? Or is it you are genuinely so “passionate” about these things that you can’t help yourself? Is it too hard to filter yourself, or you don’t care and just blast away? Maybe this is you filtered - now that’s food for thought!
I know you feel like I’ve lectured you about your tone before, and don’t mean to come off as Joe the Perfect Forum Member or Joe The Forum Policeman, and sorry to say this, but for me, and I suspect others, you should consider the fact that right or wrong, you may be thisclose to being permanently written off as a high functioning troll whom NOBODY will want to reply to, because it ALWAYS seems to revert to this.
Although, I must admit, it is much fun for me (and maybe Lex) overstating your overstatements in a Stewart/Colbert kind of way – sorta like shooting fish in a barrel in fact.
But, I also feel responsible for enabling your behavior by participating in your posts. Now I have to re-think that once again.
Good day.

Good day.
You have a tough time with me because it is really myself and a couple of other who have dissenting opinions here. However, there are a lot of lurkers who send me PMs in support of what I have to say.
Maybe its the frustration of 8 years of nonstop, petty, childish, disrespectful discourse from the left in this country as it relates to the current administration - finally coming out.
The lefty's on this board have been every bit as provocative and condescending I have been...you just happen to see things through their prism.
It has been true this entire election. People who do not support Obama have been silenced (or attemped to be) by his supporters. And your leader is not setting a good example - what with blacklisting two radio stations who asked his VP candidate some tough questions.
I want to see the candidates squirm. Up until the last week, we have not seen Obama or Biden squirm in one single interview. Their response has been revealing.

I've been reading all this and keeping my mouth shut, but there is a lot of hostility on both sides. I am a died in the wool conservative, so I see Sox as a very passionate guy who doesn't mind stepping on a few toes to make his point. Yes he can be abrasive and step over (or way over) the line. I don't think he's as manipulative or clever as JMQ gives him credit. Maybe I'm wrong. Also, there are more than a few of you who can certainly throw it back in his face, and I've even seen a few people be just a bit too sensitive. So it's pointess to keep going down this road. All we're accomplishing is pissing each other off. I wonder how we'd talk to each other if we were actually in the same room.....or bar.
I'm done waisting time on this. I'm going to STJ!!

I agree cypress...At this point, this is having a negative impact on the enjoyment I get out of politics, and this board.
I am done. I hope you all have a wonderful week, and enjoy the election (seriously)!.
Pia, maybe after this election is over, you and I and my wife can sit down and have a painkiller at the BB. I'm sure you are a wonderful, loving person who wants the best for this country and the world, and I hope you think similarly of me.
I would also like to thank Anthony for keeping this open, and allowing it to run it's course.
SOBT II girls and Jorge, enjoy your time on STJ.
May the best man win.
