St Patrick's Day parade to be 'live streamed' this morning
Virgin Islands Now is to live-stream the St Patrick's Day parade today at 11 AM (remember, we are on 'island time' so the actual start and finish time might vary from the posted schedule). The parade - all of one block long - makes up in spirit, color, music, warmth, and libation what it lacks in le...

Re: a new blog?
Congratulations and welcome to St John. We are one of the 'built from scratch' owners and while it was a long - and, yes, expensive - process we have no regrets! Please PM us if we can ever help with thorny issues, happy to help. Trust me, we encountered a lot of them during our building process. In...

Re: Best restaurants & a take-out deli in Coral Bay?
Without a doubt you have to visit Reggie's BBQ (http://blog.greatexpectationsusvi.com/2013/02/best-bbq-on-st-john-there-is-new.html) We have been loyal Uncle Joe's BBQ folks for well over a decade but, Reggie's is sure 'worth the drive' (even if you are staying in Cruz Bay!). Yes, Reggie got his 'tr...

Re: Trip insurance
We own a rental villa and recommend to our guests purchasing trip insurance from CSA which covers the cost of pre-paying a private rental villa. We do that even though our cancellation policy is that we refund all monies at any time for any reason without penalty once we re-rent the dates since the ...

ribs.jpg We are still UJBBQ loyalists; however, Uncle Joe's now has real (and delicious) competition on island in the name of Reggie's BBQ located adjacent to Cases By the Sea out in Coral Bay across the road from Island Blues. Yes, THE Reggie who worked for Uncle Joe's for years and then a couple ...

Re: Has anyone taken a Steve Simonsen workshop?
If you have any interest in photography and find yourself on St John when Steve is offering a class do yourself a favor and attend! I was fortunate enough to take his Beyond the Basics workshop this past weekend and it was wonderful. What makes for a great experience? #1 Steve is a fabulous photogra...

Re: Travel Insurance
We have for years recommended using CSA to all our guests. In our experience they are, by far, the best of all the trip interruption/cancellation companies to deal with when renting a vacation villa requiring pre-payment 30 to 45 days in advance (try explaining that to a agency which thinks you shou...

I am interested in the Tropical Lights session as well. Will be on island Jan 6 - 24; would like to do it first week (so I can use the 'lessons learned'). Let Steve's office (Janet Simonsen <janetsimonsen@mac.com>) know of your interest and if we can get 6 of us we can get it scheduled!
