I agree with lazylane in that if you have to pay the weekly rate, why not have a car. I would probably have one regardless especially if you are arriving that early. It could be a beautiful day for a drive, photo ops galore, etc. It may just be me but I like having the flexibility to go where I want...

Nancy_B - I don't know how it works flying with a dog and I am not flying direct. But I will be flying from STT to Atlanta to Albany, NY on 5/13, arriving in Albany at 10:50 pm. That is only a few hundred miles from the dog's new home.
