We were there from 3-14- to 3-21 and the rate was $6 per adult with no other charge. We only spent the day there, so did not take any bags, but the sign still read $2 per piece of luggage.

You know, that is a good idea. Just because we usually use the bracket and place it on the windshield, doesn't mean we can't just take it off and slip it in my purse or pocket. As you mentioned, I like the reassurance of having it. It got us "unstuck" in a big way in Chicago recently,(in a ...

One more question---What about a GPS?? on St. Thomas

Getting down to hours now, but I remember the car rental guy asking if we needed a GPS. I told him no, that we would bring one from home. My husband thinks maybe it would be more of a hassle since it is such a high theft item. Is it pretty easy to get around in St. Thomas? Maybe we should just forge...

Thanks all!
Yes, I would not pay to return them. Would just use them down there if possible, and if not, use them back here at home, where they know me.:)

I appreciate all the replies and so quickly. You guys are great!
Back to packing!

I just saw your first post Gromit, and
I think you are right. And the gal at the bank (after I purchased them) said that she thought maybe some merchants were afraid of them because they thought they could be duplicated like money orders were a couple of years back.

They didn't charge me anything to get them, so hopefully not. If they are going to, I'll just save them and buy groceries with them locally when we get back.

Thanks flipflop and Teresa. I think that sounds like a better plan.
They are a hassle to use, but just thought if anything happened to them, they would be safer than cash. I think I may return the ones that I bought to the bank before we leave. They'll think I'm nuts!lol

What about Traveler's Checks??? Good? Bad?

You all have been so helpful about answering my many first time St. Thomas questions! 8) We only have 1 more day before we leave, and I am packing and tying up loose ends. I went to the bank to get part of our $$ in Traveler's Checks. Had to go to 3 banks before I found one that actually had them. I...

Got the bug spray packed. Thanks for the advice about the water. I just called Verizon to see if our phones will work down there, and what if any additional charges may occur. STT has a CDMA network, so that was good, but $1.99 a minute is pretty steep. He suggested a prepaid phone card might have b...

We are going the third week of March. Missed ya by one! I have heard that St. John is great, and I look forward to seeing it also. My oldest son's best friend from high school got married there, and he has an uncle who is an artist/designer that lives there. Our timeshare was just a short term one a...

Looks like great fun....and a cocktail or two, or was it three...

I see you did mention big spray. Somewhere else I read about "no seeums" and how bad they were. Should I expect bugs in March? Daytime/nighttime only? That was one thing that was nice about Hawaii. No bugs in July.

The parasailing video looks awesome. You're really UP there! It does look like great views from there. I'll have my husband watch it to see what it thinks. Thanks for the link.

Thanks to all who mentioned raised seal birth certificates. I NEVER would have thought to take that. But maybe being stuck down there wouldn't be so bad?! I guess I would have figured if they let you into the island, they are surely going to let you out! lol. Hoosierdaddy..where in Indiana? We are a...

I guess I never thought about customs Kauai seemed simple Is there anything I should know in that regard if I don't have a passport? Purchases are not taxed, right?

Thanks for the fishing info.:)
