My family and I sailed with Jason a few years ago, and it was a great day. His emphasis is on taking you to the best snorkeling spots around the island. He had a different "first mate" back then, but I expect that you can look forward to the same outstanding service that we had. Enjoy your...

Hey, good to see you back with a post.

I am yet another who was out of work a bit...six months in my case.

Stinks to be our age; makes us expensive, I guess.

Hope to run in to you on SJ someday.

Another option is California Innovations brand soft-sided cooler. We've used this twice, with fine results.

Easy to fold it up it and put it in your suitcase for the return trip.

Good advice earlier about watching your airline's bag weight limit. Do a test weigh-in before leaving home.

My family stayed there for one night in June. It's fine. As someone else said on this board a while back, you just have to expect Motel 6 -- not the Ritz. Clean and comfortable accommodations, but not fancy. The manager (Jill - ??) is a delight, and very helpful. Several excellent restaurants in the...

Re: the market question... We were on-island last week, and can verify that a new market has indeed just opened. It is called "St. John Market" or "St. John Gourmet Market," and it is located on the South Shore Road about halfway between the Starfish Market and the Weston entranc...

I am replying to you from WindChime Villa. We check out tomorrow morning. Re your initial inquiries: -Privacy is great. -AC in all three bedrooms. Not in the main room but, in all honesty, it is not needed. You are high up Gift Hill and there is a near constant breeze. -It is a three-bedroom place, ...

We made the best of the day as well. Explored Cruz Bay, and then had pool and hot tub time at the villa. Not complaining -- we had two good beach outings the past two days, in between the rain showers. Still, some consistent sunshine for a day or two would be great. Today's thunder was the loudest w...

cigar availability & prices on STJ

Help for one who enjoys the occasional cigar, please. Is there a good place on St. John to buy cigars and, if so, how are the prices compared to the mainland or ordering online? I am aware that if we go to one of the BVI islands I'll be able to score some Cuban brands, but I am not sure we'll make t...

Transporting liquor home

Departing in less than two weeks for a return trip to St. John paradise. On our last vacation there, we stopped by the A.H. Riise stores on St. Thomas prior to departure to take advantage of the excellent duty-free pricing on some high-end spirits. That was three years ago -- preceeding the airline ...

Another Downsizing Victim Says "Heck With It"

Way too many of these stories on this board. I too was laid off earlier this year. We came really close to cancelling our June trip -- even called our rental company and canceled the villa, acknowledging that we'd lose the 50 percent deposit. Not to mention the air fare we had already paid. Then, co...

It is a flat, one-mile walk. No big deal. Well worth it. Well, it can be hot, though.

We jokingly refer to it now as the "Forced March of Fun" (our older son's reference).

As others have said, take water and enjoy it.

Glad you went with it. If it is the same as two years ago, you will find it to be quite comfortable.

The best recommendation I can give is that we would be happy to stay in that villa again.

Enjoy.
