Anthony, your girls are beautiful! I think it's so wonderful that you are exposing them to so much history and art. They are very lucky to be able to grow up in two countries! This may be a super dumb question, but do you all speak Italian fluently, or do the girls go to an American school?

I am the only dummy - the girls go to Italian public school and are fluent - Alice (the younger one) is probably better in Italian than English actually! My wife is learning more every day and speaks fairly well. I can understand a lot and know enough phrases and words to get by, but I can not converse in Italian. That will be my New Year's Resolution... I hope.

MB more on the rest of the story later!

Happy New YEAR!

Thanks for sharing Anthony and Happy New Year to you as well as your beautiful family!

I went ahead and peeked at the 2008 photos that you had on your site as well

Your girls are soooo very blessed to be experiencing so many different cultures...I think I was supposed to have a childhood like that!

Peace, Happiness and Health in 2009...

We were really just going to take 10 months here and head back to the states (we were living on St. Thomas) - but the housing market in NJ had us priced out, we got very lucky with the schools, and we love the lifestyle here. We walk or take our bikes almost everywhere - I haven't been in my car a dozen times since mid-August - the food is great, the wine is great, the people are great...

My in-laws and family are in NJ and we get back during the summer for a whole month... so for now, it works. You'll never know where we'll be in 6 months though - and neither do we!

Thanks Kathy - the best to you in 09 too. We think we are giving them a great childhood - I hope we're not wrong (since there won't be much left to fall back on :) )! How long it lasts we really don't know though. We have had some real fortunate breaks with family and friends having places for us to stay (NJ, France, England, St. Thomas), etc. and the fact that we never really settled down and bought a house somewhere has given us an incredible mobility (unplanned really) that I know I am lucky to have. Also the fact that I have still been able to pay the bills from anywhere (knocks on wood) has also helped!

Your girls are charming and pretty, Anthony and you live in a fantastic city. I really understand why you still are staying there and enjoy life. We have never been to Florence, but I know that we need to see it some day. Thanks for sharing and happy New Year!
