Car ferries from StT to StJ. How many?

So we are heading out on Dec 29th. Couldnt get a car in St John, so had to go the St Thomas route. But I am hearing they are down to one barge right now. What it like? And I going to be in a tough situation?

I heard that two were running a couple of days ago--but not sure of what's going on now.
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

I've been wanting to try one of these in order to skip the ferry:

I heard from a friend on island that weekends were still busy during the middle of the day and that you should give yourself an hour of wait time to catch the ferry.
