In Season vs Off Season prices

Post by patr »

Hello Everyone,

I know the off season begins April 15. We are putting a trip together for March 30-April 15. I know that sounds crazy, but those dates just work better for us.

I am aware of the costs difference for accomodations, but was wondering about car rental, restaurants, ferry and such. Is everything higher?

Hi Pat. I believe the car rates are higher as well. I know I have seen several web sites that refer to IS or OS rates for car rentals. Not sure about others.

In fact this is what I just got from CareFree Getaways for car rentals:

IS=IN SEASON DEC 16 - APR 15 Daily Weekly
OS=OUT OF SEASON APR 16 - DEC 15
IS/OS
4 passenger Suzuki Sidekick (automatic) 65/60 390/360
4 passenger Jeep Wrangler (automatic) 70/65 420/390
5 passenger Vitara (automatic) 75/70 450/420
5 passenger Cherokee/Liberty (automatic) 85/80 510/480
7 passenger Montero (automatic) 100/95 600/570

The above is hard to read but basically the Sidekick is $390 a week in season and $360 a week off season.

Ya, the schedules usually dictacte when you can go, whether it costs more or not. In the future, with kids in High School, we are going have to do the family trips during winter break, spring break or summer. Me, I'd rather do 2 weeks in the summer for the off-season. We like to go to Europe in the winter when its their off-season - $324 round-trip, cheaper hotels, and no lines.

We've only taken one in-season trip to STJ, 2004 to Maho Bay Camground. Our Montero from Conrad Sutton's cost a little bit more than usual. Their web site says $600 per week in season, $510 out of season. They also give an additional discount for online booking.

All of the other prices we saw were the same or similar as off season.

Cheers, Rick

I was afraid all costs would be double! Thirty or forty bucks more for car rental is no big deal. :D

The restaurants are already pretty pricey, I would hate to see those prices increase as well.

We won't be dining out as much as usual; we plan to take a cooler w/frozen meat. (first time)

Vacation Vista's summer season for 2007 starts April 1. That could be a big savings for you.
