Taxi Fare STT airport to CA

Post by turtlegirl »

Can you please tell me how much we should expect to pay for a taxi from the airport to the CA ferry? Thanks!

For two people with 4 bags we usually just give the guy a $20. Which covers us plus a generous tip and quite frankly it's just easier that way.

Hi there

Here is a link to the official taxi fares on STT.........
http://www.vinow.com/stthomas/getting_a ... stt/#rates

Gromit - you might want to consider your "tip" (said in the nicest way possible  ) as the fare from the airport to CA is $7.00 for 1 passenger and $6.00 per passenger for 2 or more (that is within your group) and $2.00 per bag, so for 2 people with 4 bags the rate is $20.00 before tip :)

Pia-- that was what we paid last December. I'm guessing the prices went up (duh). When we gave the guy a $20 last time he asked if we need the change and we said to keep it. He seemed totally OK with that.

I'm generally a very generous tipper. Guess I need to throw in a couple extra bucks!!

Pia....Lulu and I paid 10.00 each including luggage from the airport to CA.
I just figured it went up since when I was on island in March it was 7.00 and he did not add for the bag

Rosi just told me about this post. I knew we were getting taken, because I paid $5 plus $2 for my bag last year, and I figured it went up, but it didn't go up $3 in a year. (It was only $11 on the way back last year and that was with two bags and the guy held our stuff while we shopped and had lunch.) However, I didn't want to argue with the lady when she told us it was $10. I just wanted to get to the ferry.

I think I'm just going to stop tipping folks like that. You don't have to. The ferry luggage handlers, who are usually really kind of jerks about demanding a tip, acted weird when I gave them one. The guy looked at me like, "Why are you giving me this?" (Because my bag didn't fall off the boat into the ocean.)

I don't like finding out that I got taken. That makes me feel icky.

According to vinow, then, it's $11 to RH pp.

I have another question, please. Are the taxis from the airport to CA usually multi-destination or do they go just between the 2? Also are they large vans that carry a lot of passengers or just a few? Thanks

Turtlegirl--

Keep in mind that red Hook is on the other side of the island so it's more $$$ Ca, is just a short hop.

The taxis are large passenger vans. Although the taxi captain generally tries to coordinate the passengers so that there are limited stops on that van.

IOW -- you tell the captain that you're trying to make the 4pm from CA then he tries to get you on a van that will get you there in plenty of time even if they have to make a stop or two.

They make it work. Just be clear about where you're going and what ferry you're trying to make. Oh and smile and say "Good Day" before asking ;-)

All the taxi's on STT are multi passenger vans that hold approx 9 passengers. The CA taxi might stop at the BVI ferry terminal first along with any guests staying at the Holiday Inn.

I always pay $15.00 including one bag from RH to the airport and $10.00 including one bag from CA to the airport. I have the correct $ and do not tip anymore.

Pia, I am confused I thought it was $7.00 per person + $2.00 per bag and $6.00 per person if you have a larger party
So that would be $8.00 or $9.00?
So you pay $10.00 which gives them $1.00 tip?

If you are paying $10.00 incl your bag, then I do not feel that Lulu and me were jipped. She may have not known we were together

I don't consider $1.00 a tip :)  plus it is also easier to not have to wait for him to find $1.00 change or to carry and make sure I have a $5 and 4x$1

Lulu, I know exactly how you feel about being taken, which is why I asked this. My hubby has a story that happened to him on Jamaica. Everyday he would buy a fresh coconut from a man just cutting them and every day he asked him how much it was. $5. On his last day there he didn't ask how much it was and when he paid the man $5, he told him it was $10!

Thanks, Gromit. We land at 1:55 and will try to make the 3 p.m. CA ferry (we're not checking bags) so I was wondering if we'd still make it with additional stops and waiting for the van to load. I'm hoping we will as it is such a short ride.
