Help with Sites on the way to Orlando, FL

Post by Bob & Anita »

In April we will be driving from Maryland to Orlando to pick up our son from a high school band competition. We like to take a few days driving there and have a little fun on the way. It will be just us two on the way down. Any suggested sites, cities or fun places to check out on the way down would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob & Anita

We drive from NH to Florida all the time. We usually stop in Delaware/Maryland to see family and then hit Myrtle Beach to visit friends. MB has the Hard Rock Park http://www.hardrockpark.com/ and Broadway at the Beach http://www.broadwayatthebeach.com/. We then like to drive to Charleston. I love Charleston and the architecture. We also like Savannah and eating at Mrs Wilkes, get there early. ttp://www.mrswilkes.com/
Hope you have a great time.

Thanks Andrea, Charleston and Savannah were the two places we thought of. We've not been to either city and do not know much about them. Mrs. Wilkes looks great; we'll put this on our list. We are thinking about spending one night in Charleston and the next night in Savannah. Since its just the two of us for the trip down we want to find a couple of romantic places to stay. We are keeping our minds open to other ideas at this point but those two cities look cool.

I absolutely LOVE Charleston! It's totally cool! Go visit Fort Sumter if you have the time! I stayed at Charleston Place, romantic in an Old South/Scarlett O'Hara kind of way, and I totally recommend it. :D

YES! YES! I second the Kennedy Space Center! It's the coolest place I've ever been! You don't realize how big a Saturn V is until you're standing right next to one!

SJ, did you watch the launch in-person the other night? We watched it live on TV. It's always so exciting - I always hold my breath!

Bob and Anita,
We just bought a place on Johns Island, about 9 miles outside of Charleston. We go down about once a month...just LOVE the area. We are renting it out if you're interested.

CG: Thanks for the recommendation on Charleston Place.

SJfromNJ: We took the boys to Kennedy Space center 2 years ago, it was very cool - we all really enjoyed it.

Jamestown: We are only planning to spend two nights in the area. Do you rent for just two nights?

Bob & Anita -- I want to second Mrs Wilkes. Get there early to stand in line and buy the cookbook. Her daughter will even sign it for you.

We stayed at the Ballastone Inn and it was DELIGHTFUL!! http://www.ballastone.com/

This is where the movie stars stay when they film movies in Savannah. Easy walking distance to just about everything.

You cannot go wrong with this place!
*Another fine scatterbrained production
