Back to reality

Post by jdjcmaso »

Doreen & I just returned from a wonderful week in STJ. It was our 10th or 11th visit in 14 years, so I guess you could say we love it there.
After staying at the Westin all the previous times, we stayed at Lavender Hill this time and were quite happy with it.
Our favorite resturants on this visit were Tage(the best!!), Panini, Morgan's Mango, and Uncle Joe's BBQ. We also took a daytrip to Jost Van Dyke with Calypso. Had a blast there. You should visit Jost if you've never been there, it's tiny, less than 200 residents, and home to Foxy's and Soggy Dollar.
Favorite beach/snorkling sites were Waterlemon Cay(nurse shark, rays, turtles), Francis Bay(nurse shark, turtles), Cinnamon Bay, and Hawksnest(lobster).
Another highlight was drinks at the Beach Bar with Ruth from St John Spice, and Marie(silverheels), both longtime friends.
Counting the days til next year!!

Thanks for the update, can you elaborate on Tage, never been and looking forward to trying it in January. What did you have, prices, best table to reserve, etc?
Thanks

Tage

Post by jdjcmaso »

Hi Betty,
Tage was our best meal(on & off island) for 2 years in a row. They are rather expensive, entrees in the $34 range, but outstanding. Appetizers in the $15 range. I had an appetizer of scallops that were excellent, my wife and I both had seafood entrees. I had tuna, and she had a mahi special. Total bill before tax(no alcohol) was $116, so with a few drinks I would expect $150 plus tip. Definitely a special occasion priced dinner for us.
As for seating, there is an airconditioned indoor room, or if it's cool enough there is a covered outside room. Both nice, just a matter of preference. No views to be had at Tage.
Enjoy!!

Thanks Joe. I have remembered your St. John reports that you have posted for many years. We are anxious to try Tage on our next visit in February.
