Package Question

Post by Lulu76 »

I shipped our package out last week, and according to delivery confirmation, it has been sitting in the postal sorting facility in Miami since Sunday. This seems rare with priority mail.

Are they slow to scan things in at the PR sorting facility? Is it on a boat somewhere en route? Anyone ever have this happen?

I don't have anything irreplaceable in there, but I'd rather not go shopping to replace all that stuff when I've already bought it once.

I'm not going to panic; it's got two more weeks to get there. I just used to work at the post office, and I've never seen a priority mail package sit anywhere more than a few hours, let alone several days!

I mailed my box on a Friday and it was on STJ Tuesday.
I used priority mail with delivery confirmation. I wonder if there is someone you can call?

FYI - my packages that are sent to me from Kansas City (always Priority Mail) take between 7 and 10 days to arrive :)

The fastest one has made it was 5 days and the longest 6 weeks    - so don't worry........yet

Well, it was sent priority mail (the guy told me 3-5 days, and I laughed at him) with delivery confirmation a week ago today. And my delivery confirmation is what says it was last scanned on 10/19 at the Miami, Florida sorting facility.

I heard a lot of people tell me that their packages got returned to sender and were waiting for them when they got home, so I was sneaky and put my villa company's address in the to and the from addresses (we have to write the house and dates of stay on the box, so they'll know it's mine). I figured if they return it, then they'll still return it to her, so it's all good!

However, it seems to be in package limbo. She told me even priority mail could take up to three months, which is why I mailed it last Friday.

I'm just worried it fell of a boat or is sitting on an airplane tarmac, and that's why it hasn't arrived in PR yet.

It does seem like it got lost in the shuffle somewhere. Mine seemed to go straight to STJ without any scans in Miami or PR. I was notified when it left Dulles and then again when it arrived on STJ. I sure hope your things make it in time.

Maybe it will still get there soon. I have my fingers crossed.

Nothing's irreplaceable, I was just hoping to not do as much shopping when I got there.

Hope your package gets there, Lulu.

I'm thinking maybe your idea about the return address got your package caught up in the security machinery.

Lulu - I am an eBay seller from time to time and when I am selling I ship everything via Priority Mail with delivery confirmation, using the USPS online system. It's not at all unusual for a package to arrive at its destination without the tracking being updated. It doesn't happen a lot but my experience has been that it happens about 10-15% of the time, especially when it involves hand scanning at its destination. For example, if I ship 25 boxes, I will be following up on 2-3. Sometimes I have to check with the buyers to see if they received their item. I usually call my local post office to have them see if they have better info in their system than I can see online - sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Good news is that I have never lost a package, even to PR or the USVI.

I didn't think about security. I am mailing from the U.S. to the U.S. But who knows, maybe low-sugar cake mix is some sort of terrorist item (I think it is, but we'll live with it  ). I have done the return address thing before with things that could not get returned to me for whatever reason, and it's worked pretty well, so I've got my fingers crossed.

Maybe they just forgot to scan it in (in which case I want my 80 cents back for delivery confirmation). Mary Eileen is supposed to email me when it gets there, so maybe I'll hear from her.

If no progress is made by next week, I will go back to the post office and ask them to help me find it.

I wanted to mail it earlier, but everyone seemed to think three weeks would be OK, and I didn't want Mary Eileen to have to keep it too long. But all of our previous correspondence, which was all regular mail, took less than a week to arrive.

Did you hand write the address label, or was it printed for you by the post office?

Handwritten, but I used all capital letters and no punctuation, just like I was told. The guy at the post office said it looked good.

As a resident who gets a lot of mail, I can say this is not at all unusual, especially in the past few years. I've had priority packages take anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks...not to mention the two Netflix mailers that took three months!

Hi Lulu! Where did you ship your package to? If you haven't tried calling the destination to check on the package arrival...you may want to do so. Often times one of the girls will email from Connections just to let me know that my package has arrived. More often than not...the tracking info is just behind! Good Luck!

Hi Lu

Lu it will get there. i just checked our package a few minutes ago and it just arrived this afternoon. We sent it out on October 14   It usually only takes 2-3 days when we send down our stuff. I blame it on the earthquake and Hurricaine Omar. We always send down our packages before a trip. We have downsized from a carryon to packages. Like to be hands free on the plane. no worries mon. and a big THANK YOU TO RUTH!!!!! thanks Ruth   We owe you a few painkillers girl

hey lulu! I sent my package priority mail on Oct 10th. it arrived on the 17th -- passing through New Jersey first. i thought it would take longer, with the hurricane and all. One time, it took three weeks for my package to get there! Don't worry -- i don't i've heard of it taking longer than that.
