Back to real life!

Post by Nic in KC »

Hi all!

It's just another day in paradise...NOT! Back to cold, cloudy Kansas City!

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes during the anticipation of Omar! We were very thankful that the damage was so minimal. Our "Hurricane Party" is something we will remember forever! Despite rain, we had an amazing trip. Jason and I kept looking at each other, shaking our heads and saying, "I'm pretty sure something must be wrong with us". No matter what happened we just kept smiling and going with the flow and we'll have more memories from this trip than from any other. I had about 10 minutes early on in the trip where I started to get upset that it was raining and then we both decided, we are in freaking St. John and we are going to enjoy it!

I'll be happy to relive it all with pictures this weekend before all the next round of trip reports start! We are relaxed, happy and totally suntanned. So yes, we did get to enjoy the beach!

More soon!

Hi Nic - So glad to hear that you and Jason made the best of a situation that was totally out of your hands!

I can't wait for your trip report - I guess this trip was a LOT different from your last one!

Hey Nic--
Awesome you guys were able to make lemonaide when mother nature was trying to ambush your vacation with lemons. Being on island during a hurricane will be trip you will never forget. Glad you and everyone else were safe.

I love the attitude check! I know I've done that before, remind myself that it's all good. On the other hand these are the experiences that you learn the most from and become more cherished because of your endurance!

When my husband & I celebrated our first Christmas with my infant daughter, we had no money for a tree. So on Christmas Eve, we found a small tree that we paid $3.00. It was bare in the back and had a double trunk - so it didn't fit into a stand. DH took a coffee can, stood the tree in the center of it and nailed the entire contraption to an old table. We didn't have any ornaments - so we took a few of the babys rattles that she did not play with, tied ribbon on them and hung them on the tree. Since then we've had 27 perfect trees (we go on a perfect tree hunt every year), yet I can't remember any of them. When I think of our Christmas Tree - that sad little tree nailed to the table is the only one in my head. Ok, unrelated story, sorry.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you go to St. JOhn every year for the rest of your life - this will be the trip that will stand out, you'll remember every detail. The other trips with perfect weather will begin to run together and blur. Talk about Fear Factor - hah! A hurrican in the Caribbean is nothing to sneeze at! And yet you laughed and had a great time!
