iPhone geeks...favorite apps?
For all of you iPhone geeks out there (Vicki), what are your favorite apps?
Wisconsin, smell the dairy air
I'm not Vicki but one of my favorite apps is the Pandora app. I love it for when I'm tired of my same ol' and just want some random music.
I also use a mapmyrun.com app and a nutritional app, but those are a dime a dozen, I'm sure.
I'm not into games on the iPhone, but I'd be anxious to hear what others are getting into.

Camera Bag. It lets you use the camera to simulate certain types of old-style film cameras. Here's a link with some description/examples.

Also I love my iZen Garden.

I always heard that the biggest geek barks first. Isn't that how the saying goes? Oh, wait, that's guilty dogs. Whatever. LMG wins!
Seriously, I am still overwhelmed by all the choices. I usually go in and browse and there are just so freakin' many that I end up with nothing.
I do have a few that I really like so far.
CameraBag is pretty neat for photos. It offers some "fun" camera alternatives to jazz up your crappy iPhone pics.
Custom Sounds of Nature is cool if you ever have to travel and are used to having some "noise" while you sleep. It has 4 options (ocean, storm, night, and stream) and each one has 4 sounds that you can turn on or off simultaneously at varying volumes. For example, ocean has waves, gulls, windchimes, and foghorn...although I am not sure who might find the foghorn soothing....
I also have the Say Who dialer (free). I am one of those fools who tries to make calls while driving, and I am not a good driver when both eyes are forward and both hands are on the wheel, so it keeps me from having to look at the touchpad. It works pretty well even with my big, bad southern accent.
Another fun free one I have found is Shazam. It can "listen" to a song and tell you what it is. It works most of the time. It is good for people like me that love music but never listen to the radio. I just hear random stuff and like it. Then I have to try to figure out what I heard.
Jott for iPhone is another free one I like so far. I am on the go all the time and tend to think of things I need to remember at the worst times, like while I am driving. I never have a pen or paper. You can speak it into your phone and it makes notes for you that are stored on your phone and online.
I have been interested in the reading/book applications, but I am just not sure how much I would like reading a book on my iPhone. It sure would cut down on luggage, though. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has tried it.
Oh, and I am really tempted to get the iHarmonica. I think it would be fun and I could really annoy the hell out of people with it.

I'm bummed. I downloaded Say Who and it won't work. There is some sort of a problem with my network provider, or something like that.
Vicki, I like Recorder for saving thoughts, ideas. It acts like a simple "tape" recorder but, you also can email the wav. file. So, when I am out of the office, I can dictate letters and email them back to my office for my secretary to type. That's pretty cool.

Just got my iphone last week so still exploring and learning everything.
If you are into the white noise/sounds then try Easy Relax. Ton of sounds on it.
Pandora is a good one too.
i.tv is a good one too. Tell you whats on the tube in your area as well as movie times and previews.
I really wish someone would come out with an looped/interactive weather radar app. From the ones I have looked at they all seem to be lacking.

Okay, I take it back, LMG. I think the length of my response in relation to everyone else's gets me the big geek award.
Pete, how long can you record with Recorder? I like that Jott transcribes it for you, but you can only do 15 seconds at a time. If I had something really long, that could get annoying. Recorder might be better when I need it for something lengthy.
I have been tempted by Easy Relax, especially since it's free.

I use several including the recorder app. My kids love popping the bubble wrap.. My favorite party trick is Shazam. It is free and really cool. It has come in useful several times because it makes a tag for you to remember. When you are ready to make a new playset, it has all of the ones you have "shazammed" there for you. I was at a movie the other night and a song was playing and my husband and I could not figure out who sang it. I shazammed it and got my answer. Cool beans man!
The flashlight is good if you ever use your phone to see something. I do it all the time and then it cuts off. With the flashlight app it doesnt cut off, plus you get neat colors and even one that changes colors.
Ereader and ambiance are good also.

That's ok. I am and probably always will be a geek in training.VickiH wrote:Okay, I take it back, LMG. I think the length of my response in relation to everyone else's gets me the big geek award.

One more fun (depending) app is Twitteriffic, for users of Twitter. I'd go into an explanation of Twitter, but I'm not about to let my two worlds collide here.
Now I'm going to go look at Shazam, and Say Who so I can try and fool it with my accent.

Anyone Jailbreak their phone?
I like the Winterboard themes icons and sounds available. I use Stumbler to detect WiFi in the area. MxTube is a nice alternative to YouTube if you want to save videos. Of course Cycorder to take video, and Snapture for camea. I like Snaptrue for the simple ability to just tap anywhere on the screen to take a picture, instead of the camera button. Categories is nice for when you get over 3 pages of icons on your springboard, so that you can put them in folders. PdaNet is essential, so that you can tether your laptop or computer to your Iphone and use it as a high speed modem on the road.
Of the App Store apps...i like Bookshelf for ebooks, Wikipanion, and The New York Times, and Touchcast for RSS feeds. Voice Record, because I bought it for a job i was hired for, and it works well.
There is one I have, but have not tried yer. It's called 'Qik' and I guess it does an instant webcam to a webpage from your phone. Might be cool to play around with on vacation.
edit. Oh, and I forgot WorldView. A free appstore app that has loads of webcams. One press of a button, and I'm at the Cruz Bay Ferry Dock!
Has anyone tried SayWho over a bluetooth headset?
