Mahogany Tree Villas
I was wondering if anyone ever stayed at Mahogany Tree Villas and had any feedback on these places?

Hi Bug,
My husband and I have stayed there twice. First time we stayed in the 2 story unit, and last time in one of the smaller units (can't remember their names). The 2 story unit did not have air conditioning at all, and the other unit had a small one in the bedroom, but it had a hard time keeping up, and we only used it at night. So if a/c is an issue, you may want to see if they have upgraded. The property had changed hands right before our first visit, and was on the market again during our second visit.
Mahogany Tree is not luxury - basic accomodations, and it could use some TLC.
But, nice small pool to relax in, and most of the time we felt like the only guests. Close to town - we always walked to Cruz Bay for dinner/drinks at night. (to get there, go past Gallows Point/Zozo's, as you're going down the hill, there is a road to your left...it's quite a hike uphill, but we always felt good about it after eating & drinking lots of calories
)
So, if you're looking for a basic property, close to town, and at a good price - this would fit the bill. Let me know if you have any specific questions...

We stayed there a couple of times back in 2004-5 (before the r changed hands). We had the Bouganvillia suite, which we found to be very comfortable. The AC unit was adequate to cool down the sleeping/living area. The kitchen was small but we didn't do much cooking beyond breakfast. The deck was wonderful--huge with a big hammock. The small pool area was very nice with an honor bar and a room full of books for the guests. It is easy to walk to Cruz Bay though there are some steep hills to negotiate. I don't know what it's like now, but we very much enjoyed our stay there back then.
Take care, Drusilla
hey bug! We used to stay at Mahogany Tree all the time before it was sold. The old owners were fabulous, and lived on the property. We loved it, but it mostly had to do with the neighborhood, the vibe, and the "honesty bar" (which I heard no longer exists). It wasn't luxurious then either, but it was spotless. The reviews since then have been less than good, which upsets me since MTV will always have a place in my heart. I also saw in the tradewinds that it's on the market for less than a million (i'd buy it myself if i could...)!
We stayed at Mahogany Tree in 2005 after it had changed ownership. We understood at the time we booked that the owners were great, however, not so with the new owner. We had the top unit with the bedroom upstairs with no a/c in the entire unit. The bed was most uncomfortable. Hopefully, they have upgraded the furniture. We were there during the later part of July and the bugs were TERRIBLE. We couldn't turn the lights on at night without them coming straight through the screens. While it was great to be so close to town, we felt the accommodations weren't so great.
It sounds like it really went downhill. Too bad. It used to be nice. (Good to know).Patty wrote:We stayed at Mahogany Tree in 2005 after it had changed ownership. I don't know where these people are coming from with all of the negative stuff about Mahogany Tree Villas.
We have stayed there every trip. We never encountered anything unpleasant during our stays. The owner, Bob is a real nice man who we deal with directly every year. Every year we receive a bigger discount and see even more improvement on the property. Our friends stayed in Bouganvilla and enjoyed it. We stayed next door to them in Azul de Mar and loved it. Came back the next year and enjoyed Azul de Mar again. Last year we up graded to Dolphina, it couldn't have been nicer. We peeked in Caribsea and it was very nice also. All of the villa bedrooms have a/c units that work wonderfully. Bob now has a couple who stay in Bouganvilla and they are there to fix and run the place. They stay out of the way and help you when you need directions or have questions. These are not luxury but they are very clean, well priced villas, very close to town. God willing we will be back in 2009. Bug, or anyone who has questions, please feel free to ask me. Lori~

we never touch someone so lightly that we don't leave a trace
Sorry to say that we walked by them many times this last trip and they looked very run down. We had stayed there 10 years ago on our first trip so we were sad to see them that way!
Right next door were incredible looking condos...can not remember the name.
We stayed at Frank Bay House...great and reasonable!
