Bus Service

Post by Sherrial »

Is there still bus service across the island? Where would I be able to find a schedule, and is it close
to being on time?

During our last trip we rescued a nice couple in Coral Bay who had taken the bus there- the bus never came back. They were very appreciative for the ride after spending a considerable amount of time waiting in the hot sun at the bus stop.

Welcome to the forum, sherrial!

There is a bus that goes along Centerline Road from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay. It does not go down the North Shore Road, which is where a lot of the beaches are. Service is "soon come" and the cost is $1.

It's more reliable to use a taxi, or to rent a car.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

We met some girls who took the bus everywhere and didn't have a car. They never made plans to be anywhere at a certain time (but isn't that how STJ is best?), but they said you couldn't beat it for a buck.

I wouldn't rely on it, but if you like to stay in Cruz Bay and just want to get out to Skinny's one day, it might not be bad.

The 8PM bus run from Coral Bay to Cruz Bay seems to be pretty reliable. I've spoken to a number of regulars at the Island Blues karaoke night that hit that bus after getting in a couple of songs.

No North Shore service, just Cruz Bay Centerline to Coral Bay and out to Salt Pond Bay.

I've taken the bus out to Coral Bay, Salt Pond, and Miss Lucy's on each of my four trips and it seems to be pretty reliable. It leaves Cruz Bay at about 25 past the hour, I think.

We take the bus at least once, if not twice, during each visit. During our trip this summer I took special notice if it was running on time or not. It was considerably more punctual than it has ever been in the past. It may have helped that one of the busses was new. If one of the busses is not running, it will only pass each stop every two hours, not every hour. Be sure to ask when you get on in Cruz Bay if both busses are running. We have always enjoyed the conversation with other tourists and with the locals on our bus trips and you can't beat the price for a ride to Salt Pond. The first bus leaves Cruz Bay at 8 am and then it leaves at 25 minutes past the hour starting at 9:25. I believe it leaves Salt Pond at 15 minutes past the hour.

Saturday seems to be the most unreliable day :)

First bus leaves Cruz Bay very early (I hear it return to Cruz Bay going past my house somewhere in the 6:20am time frame  ) and the last bus from Cruz bay to Saltpond is approx 7:20pm and returns from Saltpond to Cruz Bay around 8:05pm (they always run the last bus :) )
