Sirius Satellite Radio?

Post by nmclain1978 »

We are leaving in 46 days for our 10 vacation in St John. We are staying at Morgan Point Villa in Great Cruz Bay. My husband is wondering if our satellite radio will work down there. We have the portable one so we can bring it anywhere. We are just not sure if it picks up signal on the island. Anyone use their radios down there? Anyone know if it will work? Thank you so much!!!

We have a Stilletto and we've found that it works sometimes and sometimes note. It worked at Perelandra our first week in May (right up the street from Pine Peace and next to Sirenusa) but it didn't work when we were at Tesori (up Giftt Hill Road above Rendevous Bay). We would then listen to it through our laptop.

Have a wonderful trip!

We used ours in May & we were up near Chocolate Hole, if we had a problem we would just call the 1-800 # & they would send out the signal.

I hope Charlie doesn't read this thread! Yet another thing to pack??? I always tell him it doesn't work down there. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I actually called XM before our trip and they told me their signal did not reach that far into the Caribbean, so I didn't even try to take my portable.

Bayer, no surprise as XM is inferior to Sirius :) Well, I guess for now until the merger goes through.

I was just thinking "OMG, not one more thing to pack!" Luckily, I have XM so it is not going with me...

I am perfectly satisfied with what I get from XM. Since I don't have Sirius, I guess I don't know any different. :)

Thanks for the responses. I'm still torn as to weather we should bring the radio or not. I guess it will be a last minute decision as to whether to throw it into the suitcase. Thanks again!

We brought our Sirius in May. It has a small boom box and you pop it right in there. Husband insisted on it, but I told him "I'm not carrying it"! No way, no how.

We were on STT, with our view right over onto STJ. We got it, but it a hysterical watching him trying to get it to work.

He eventually settled on putting the antenna up in the gutter of the house, which meant that he had to get a 10 foot ladder, with 2 people holding onto him so he didn't fall off a 60 foot cliff.

We did enjoy it though.

He wants to bring it again this November and I'm still saying no. He was thinking about bringing it to the beaches. I said "Why don't you just put a sign on it that says, take me!"

I think I'm going to go buy a cheap portable radio and take my chances.
