One Night Stay

Any suggestions where a group of 4-6 can stay for one night on St. John? Our group has a villa October 26th - November 9th. I found great airfare today (Detroit - St. Thomas) for $427, if we leave on Saturday. I really DON'T want to pay the outrageous one night stay at the Westin - tried Cruz Views, no luck. Any feedback would be appreciated! Of course, cheaper is better, more $$$ for Bushwackers!

stay over on STT, think about renting car and then taking car ferry over to St John next day

I would just stay at a hotel on STT, too. I can't think of anywhere on STJ that will do a one-night stay.

Do you have to have everyone in one unit or can you split your group into two or more rooms? If you can split, try Coconut Coast Studios, Serendip Condos, Gallows Point, or the Westin (which you know about).

When we plan our trips, we like to allow the first night to stay on St. Thomas. When we leave home so early in the morning, spend most of the day on an airplane or sitting in an airport waiting for a connecting flight, we are exhausted by the time we land in St. Thomas. We like to pick a nice quite hotel near Charlotte Amalie to stay in for one night, relax, and take the ferry from the dock there over to St John, rested and refreshed. It makes the whole thing so much nicer. The ride from the airport to Charlotte Amalie is quick and cheap, and I much prefer the long ferry ride to the long bus ride to Red Hook and the shorter ferry ride.
Just a suggestion. It works great for us.

That's exactly how I did it. Totally agree with the long ferry ride vs. long bus ride! I also didn't want to burn my first day on STJ with late arrival, car p/u, groceries, etc. I was up at the butt-crack of dawn on STT, itching for the first ferry! I'll do it that way again for sure!

Try Gallows. We booked one night there for Oct. We also looked at Hillcrest. Nice to wake up and start the day on St John.

Did you check the Raintree Inn? Is it still open?

The Inn at Tamarind Court isn't much but it's cheap and on STJ if you don't want to stay on STT.

We booked some friends for one night there due to an overlap between rental weeks and they said it was fine.

Have you checked with the agent if your villa is available the day before your rental starts? If the villa is available, try to negociate a late arrival, reduced rate for the first night. It would just be extra money that they hadn't expected.

My preference, and practiced behavior, regardless would be to stay at the Best Western Emerald Beach in STT. Depending on your arrival time, take a dip, have a complimentary rum punch, have a nice dinner and breakfast, take a mid-late morning ferry, avoid the late afternnon crowds, and still have most of a day in STJ.
