Trip Report 7/12 - Day 3

Post by greyhoundmom »

Up at 6:00 AM, wheat toast, p-nut butter and Voodoo coffee. Hit Trunk at 8:00, first ones there so no fee to get in. Set up camp under Mangrove close to lifeguard station. By 10:00 inundated with yellow vest cruise ship people. Early on, irrational guy ranting on beach to lifeguard because wife and friend had snorkeled off without them. When they came in he was motioning irrationally for them to hurry, surprised he didn't fall down what with all the arm motions. When wife was close enough he ripped her mask off and said, "you're done, we're leaving". She's lookng at him like he's lost his mind. All I can say is he has a lot to learn about relationships and definitely needs to check himself in to an anger management class when he gets home - what a jerk! Lunch on beach, chicken salad, spinach wraps, almonds. Picked up a donkey hitchhiker who said he'd never been on vacation so he'll hang with us for the duration of vacation! Left Trunk at 12:30, on to Cruz Bay thinking we might do some vendor shopping in the square. So disappointed to find out it's only the last Saturday of the month now, don't know why? Walked down to National Park Service to sign up for guided Reef Bay trail hike later in week since bro/sis-in-law haven't done it. Hit Mongoose for hook bracelet for granddaughter, on to Star Fish for mango and guava juice mixers. Back to Orion's for Capt. Dan's homemade spaghetti and garlic toast. Copious rum, good conversation, no tans pool and hit the sack at 9:30 - amazing what sand, sun, snorkeling takes out of you. Ah, the good life!

Tomorrow, Salt Pond.

Great pictures! Turtle is very pretty. What is the thing in your hand in the picture above the starfish?

Hi Cass, my brother-in-law tells me it's a pin shell. He is from the FL panhandle and knows his shells, but I don't have a clue?!

Hey thanks! I've never seen one of them before. I found more info on it on this site:

http://www.seashells.org/

It's kind of a cool site to waste vast amounts of nothingness time!

Enjoying your trip reports very much!

I LMAO at your witnessing crazy cruise ship guy. But I must say my heart goes out to his poor lady, I bet she experiences much worse than that on a daily basis. I just don't get women who tolerate that crap! Where is their self-respect? :x

I am loving your report with the pics - keep 'em coming! :D

Who did you rent Orion from? It is definitely on my list for the near future. I was looking at it for our upcoming December trip, but you know what they say, "He who hesitates . . . " Yup, someone else booked it! :?

Hi Patr!

Orion's Hill rented through Caribbean Villas. I asked Doug, the owner, while we where there if anyone else handled his rental and he said no. I hated to hear that as we adore the villa but Caribean Villas charges an extra 5% per week fee over and above the 8% VI tax, so for 2 weeks we paid an extra $600! to Caribbean Villas. As much as I'd like to stay here again, we are looking at others for next year who don't charge this extra fee. If you are only going for a week with another couple, $300 split two ways is not so bad, but.....we could have used that $600 on lots of other things!
