Trip report Day 7
Not a lot on the agenda today. After a nice breakfast sandwich,
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 4818"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOawDa1 ... 1.JPG"></a>
I thought we would revisit Gibney, visit with our friend some more and of course, snorkel some. Gibney really is a pretty area..
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 0866"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOaaZ9k ... 7.JPG"></a>
We found out a lot of history from Terry Gibney, and her Horticulturist. The property was a provisioning property. Therefore, they have all kinds of fruit trees growing there. I don't know the whole story of the family, but it is quite an eclectic group. Terry lives in one of the cottages next to the ones she rents. Down the beach a bit, another one of the Gibneys lives, but does not like to be disturbed........at all
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 2706"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOadR64 ... 0.JPG"></a>
So, we noodled a bit...
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 6162"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOad2hy ... 2.JPG"></a>
And I watched a lady playing frisbie with her dog...
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 0930"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOaf8Es ... 5.JPG"></a>
We left Gibney after a while, we got hungry, and decided to head back over to Skinney's. They make the best Blue Cheese Burger anywhere!
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 1042"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOazO2k ... 6.JPG"></a>
Since tonight was the BB Forum get together, we headed back to the villa for some pool time:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 4514"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOarvAf ... 2.JPG"></a>
And more....yes, here it comes LuLu........adult beverages. Besides, the setting at the villa looks so nice, we decided to take some pictures for our families;
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 9410"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOalcrH ... 2.JPG"></a>
We cleaned up a little.....very little, we were just going to meet some of the Forum members.....then headed for the Beach bar. Parking was pretty bad, and I had to finally park at Mongoose Junction and walk over to the BB. Hell, we parked there every day and walked everywhere!
We arrived at the BB, and immediately found Ruth, Ready4Paradise, Anthony, and some more forum folk...<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 4866"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOa1GFJ ... 9.JPG"></a>
We had a nice visit:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 5922"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOa3IfM ... 2.JPG"></a>
Even Eric was there:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 3170"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOa4EUE ... 3.JPG"></a>
Ready4 and I were deep in conversation solving the world's problems....well, not really, she was telling me she was from Napa, California, and didn't like wine. The world's problems paled in that revalation...
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 7762"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOa5i5Q ... 5.JPG"></a>
We had enough fun and merriment at the BB....and besides we were pretty hungry by then, so we left the BB and the wonderful Forum Friends and went to dinner at Rhumb Lines.
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 4098"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOaoA2C ... 3.JPG"></a>
In a word, it was FANTABULOUS!! If you like spicey Asian fare, this is the place for you! It was very, very good. Five stars at least. I met the owners, chefs and workers....they are all the same guys:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 4722"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOaqQQe ... 5.JPG"></a>
O.K., here comes some food porn... I had the Pork and I also had a yummy Mojito:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 0194"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOapmAt ... 4.JPG"></a>
Barb had the Scallops:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 1810"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKObC0wS ... 9.JPG"></a>
The Newbie had the Pad Thai:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 3122"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKObCOSO ... 8.JPG"></a>
We were even entertained by T-Bird:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 0034"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKOarNaD ... 6.JPG"></a>
We were full, happy campers, and figured we'd head home and retire to the solitude that was Idyllic. After a night cap....I know, more boozing......there is no helping us......we retired to the hypnotizing hum of the A/C....hoping that it would stay on all night.
Oh yeah, some one though the cactus by the villa was to ornery looking so they made a couple of amendments...
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 1202"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SKObJ3ch ... 9.JPG"></a>
Til tomorrow......G'night mates.

The liver is evil, it must be punished!

Well I found this report a tad bit unsophisticated and filled with trivial pics and the mention of adult drinks made me go make another.
Lucky I'm a hick as I seemed to really enjoy the report. Keep up the good work. We also really enjoyed Rhumblines. They know spicy (GREAT BUNGHOLIOS OF FIRE)they have some HOT Tuna dish that is to die for. Think we shall return our next visit.

I must make a clarification about the head wear. They are not bathing caps, they are Scuba-Do-Rags we picked up at our local dive shop to protect our (my) head from the sun, but Barb wears one because it keeps the hair out of her mask whilst snorkeling.SJfromNJ wrote:Nice pictures. first time I ever saw someone in a bathing cap in STJ.
Beach Bar gatherings are so good.
Good eye SJ...thanks for noticing.
Cptn.....go make another drink. I, like yourself, do not type...so a camera is a MUST in trip reporting!
Thanks for all the comments.....more later.

Yes, LuLu, your are getting quite a list there! We stayed at the Villa Idyllic offered by Vacation Vistas. It was really a very nice 3 bedroom 3 bath house with a pool. I'll have to do a villa review when I get through this loooooong trip report. I don't type, and I am not a writer, but I do have lots of pix to share!!

I wasn't going to say anything, but the details about Gibney might not be, shall we say, historically correct. Teri Gibney is a relatively recent transplant to St. John, the third wife of the famous (or infamous) John Gibney, who died in early 2003.
The provision ground, for example....all the old fruit trees there date back to a pretty massive commercial fruit production effort in the late 19th century. The owner at that time also owned Denis Bay, Peter Bay and Cinnamon Bay, and had hundreds of fruit trees and acres of bananas and pineapples. The owner went broke, but his descendants still live on St. John, including the famous (or infamous) Victor Hall--whose illegal roadside bar, the KIte, is fondly remembered by many.

Hugo, as they say in my spanking class...I stand corrected.hugo wrote:I wasn't going to say anything, but the details about Gibney might not be, shall we say, historically correct. Thanks again, and, anytime you want to jump in and help me out, I really do appreciate it!
